E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new

skills
For today our topic is all about Citing Related
Literature Using Standard Style.
At this time, I want one of you to be a little teacher
here in front.

Referencing Styles
 APA (American Psychological Association)
- Is an author/date based style. This means
emphasis is placed on the author and the date
of a piece of work to uniquely identify it.
Ex. (Ramos, 2015) or Ramos (2016)
 MLA (Modern Language Association)
- Is most often applied in the arts and
humanities, particularly in the U.S.A.
Ex. (Bautista 183), Flores et.al. 150-158)
(Acosta, Hizon, Lopez 235-240)
(Velarde 4: 389-403) – for periodicals
 HARVARD
- Is very similar to APA. It is the most well used
referencing style in the UK and Australia, and it
is encouraged for use with the humanities.
 CHICAGO AND TURABIAN
- Are two separate styles but very similar. They
are also widely used for history and economics.

Ways of Citing Related Literature

1. By author or writer
Ex. According to Felipe (2015)
2. By topic
Ex. It has been found out that….
3. By chronology – according to the year, the literatures
were written, usually from earliest to the latest

Sample of Citations
 Books
 Websites
 E-Books
 YouTube Video
 Encyclopedia Entry, Print
 Magazine Article
 Journal Article

F. Finding practical applications of concepts and

skills in daily living
I will group you into 4.
DIRECTIONS: Identify the citation style used.

GROUP 1
A. Many gave their comments about the medicinal
powers of amplaya. For instance, the latest study by
Santos and Gomez revealed that the juice of this
vegetable can be a good cure against diabetes.

GROUP 2
B. De Jesus and Roces felt that one research study by
(Collanto and Fernandez p.88) and Vallejo, 2015
validated Meneses findings on the Ebola virus.

GROUP 3
C. A number of medicinal plants can be found in
one’s family’s backyard. Fruit trees like santol, mango,
guava, tamarind, atis, guyabano, among others, grow
robustly in any spacious area in a yard. Needing no
regular watering, these plants always make themselves
available to people believing in their medicinal
qualities. (Rafael Corpuz)

GROUP 4
D. One study by Laguardia (2015) has identified the
seven components of Intercultural competence that
according to Florentino (2015, p. 45) are likewise the
leading elements of one “contemporary language
theory called Systemic Functional Grammar”.
I will give you 5 minutes to finish your task. You will be
graded using this criteria.
CRITERIA
POINTS INDICATORS
5 Shows eagerness and cooperation to do the task,
participation actively, do great help to the group.
4 Shows eagerness and cooperation to do the task, good
followers only.
3 Participated but late, with teacher’s supervision.
2 Activity was done but does not show eagerness to
participate or cooperate.
1 No interest in participating the activities.
G. Making generalizations and abstractions about
the lesson
Previous studies do not only serve as a basis for the
current study but more significantly, information culled
from the said sources can support in the process of
interpretation and analysis of data. Without library
sources, researchers will find great difficulty in doing a
study.

H. Evaluating learning
Get ¼ sheet of paper.
DIRECTIONS: Identify the following.
1. It is very similar to APA. HARVARD
2. It is an author/date based style. APA
3. These are two separate styles but very similar. CHICAGO AND TURABIAN
4. According to Shakespeare (1987)…
5. It has been found out that…
I. Additional activities for application or
remediation
Cite sources of Literature Review for your
study, its style and ways of citing.
V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% on the formative
assessment
B. No. of learners who require additional activities for
remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson.
D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did
these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or
supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover
which I wish to share with other teachers?
