2. Analysis of un-signalized Intersection

2.1 Objective:

 To determine the delay at intersection, for individual vehicle types and in each direction
for different volume data.
 To plot graph between delay and volume

2.2 Software used:

 PTV Vissim

2.3 Procedure:

Steps involved in analysis of intersection

Step 1: A four legged 4-lane divided intersection has been created and for each leg, left and
right turning were assigned.

Fig 2.1 Four legged intersection

Step 2: Add the Vehicle 2D/3D model segments using Base data, different vehicle types and
number of vehicles added to the section and then vehicle distribution should be done.

Step 3: Vehicle types and classes has been assigned

Fig 2.4 Vehicle classes and types

Step 4: Vehicle routing has been assigned based on their direction, routing has done for all the
3 directions (straight, left and right turns).

Step 5: Based on the vehicle types were selected, vehicle composition has been done with
different relative flows.

Vehicle inputs for all four legs has been assigned and different volumes were given for
corresponding vehicle composition.

Fig 2.6 Vehicle composition and relative flows

Fig 2.7 Vehicle inputs and volume

Step 6: Nodes has been assigned for intersection, and conflicts points has been resolved and
priorities has been given based on their direction and volume.

Step 7: Finally after giving all the input data and reducing conflicts, simulation has been done
by giving simulation parameters and configuration as same as mid-block section.

2.5 Comments:

 From the graphs it can be concluded that as volume increases the delay also increasing
(as more vehicle accommodate near intersection).
 As bike composition given was high, it is taking more time to cross the intersection, so
delay is high as volume is increasing.(From the table)
 Compared to all directions, W-S direction delay was high, because it was considered as
one of major route and volume given for this route is high.
