pay their respects to those who served in the Great War of 1914-1918. The event, which was co-

service clubs in Bacchus Marsh. These included the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, SES, CFA

Line honours by a country mile

By Cody Winnell and Michael Howard

THEY ran and they ran, and they ran, and Tiger Tara was simply better than them.
That was Saturday’s Del-Re National A.G. Hunter Cup in a nutshell, as the Kevin Pizzuto-
trained wonder horse from New South Wales added Victoria’s most prestigious Grand Circuit
trophy to his cabinet at Tabcorp Park Melton.
The eight-year-old stallion already boasts the silverware from this season’s Pryde’s EasiFeed
Victoria Cup and TAB Inter Dominion Grand Final.
And he didn’t just win those races either; he blitzed his opposition. All up, his accumulated
winning margin for the three classics is 41.1m.
“He’s an amazing animal and he deserves everything this horse,” Pizzuto said.
“They said the horse wasn’t at his best tonight … but I told them he was. And he was.”
Tiger Tara started $1.90 favourite and won by a whopping 14.5 metres in a new track record
mile rate of 1:53.2, smashing his own previous mark by 0.7secs.
“He’s an absolute pleasure to be a part of,” winning reinsman 25-year-old Todd McCarthy
said.
“All credit to the horse and Kevin, who does such a great job with this horse.”
Tabcorp Park Saturday 2nd February, Race 7 Hunter Cup (Group 1). Winner: Tiger Tara (3).
Our Uncle Sam finished second, making it the same quinella as the ID18 final, while San Trainer: Kevin Pizzuto. Driver: Todd McCarthy. Photos: Stuart McCormick
Carlo ran on hard for third ahead of warhorse veteran Flaming Flutter and the fast-finishing
Buster Brady.
A perfectly timed swoop delivered Team Teal its first Victorian Group 1 when Kima Frenning
guided Big Jack Hammer to the Hygain V L Dullard Cup on Saturday night.
A plan paid off for trainer David Aiken, Frenning and owner Domenic Martello with the
popular victory reward for an outstanding campaign by the six-year-old gelding.
“It’s crazy,” Frenning said.
“He’s been racing so well during the Inter Dominion campaign, I think his best runs have
definitely been off the speed and he proved that tonight. He’s a super quick horse and really
consistent.”
Frenning was able to implement plan A, conceding the lead to Gavin Lang and Save Our
Pennys and then biding her time while others boxed on.
Outside the leader Temporale and then Red Hot Tooth punched the breeze, but come the
final straight none could muster the speed of Big Jack Hammer, who emerged down the
sprint lane to score by 1.8m.
“Now that he’s up in class a bit he’s probably best driven off the speed,” Frenning said.
“He’s a super consistent horse, (Aiken) has done a really good job with him, Domenic’s given
me so many opportunities. This is crazy.”
