0 Activity 1: Creating BI Publisher Report Template
You will import an already existing Data Extract Definition. You have already seen a
demonstration of creating this data definition, so we will restrict this activity to importing
that data extract definition. We encourage you that at the end of this activity, please
browse through the definition and become familiar with the user interface.
Requirements
Use the bold text for the object names, replacing the XX with your initials.
You must have access to Oracle Fusion Application InFusion database or
comparable training or test instance at your site, on which to complete this
practice.
You will need to access and download the sample Data Extract Definition file
called "Sample Extract_2014-08-21.pdf" which is found in the Activites Guide
directory on beehiveonline. The full URL is

If you have further questions on how to create the Data Extract in the first place,
we encourage you to view either of the following assets:

4. Name the extract with as XX HR Data Extract where XX are your initials.
6. Browse and select the Extract Definition file called "Sample Extract_2014-08-

11. If you are not on the Validate step, click Validate, you'll notice that the Fast
Formulas are have a red x next to them, indicating that they are not compiled.
14. Sometimes this zone in the page has an issue refreshing, so click on
Deliver and then click on Validate several times until such time as the
red x's have moved to be green checkmarks. At this time, you should
have a successful HCM Extract Definition that matches the .rtf and .xsd
files that will be used in later activities.

JDK 7 is installed on the machine you are using for this activity.
BI Publisher Desktop has been downloaded and installed on the machine you
are using for this activity.
The TemplateBuilderforWord/tmp folder exists in the application data on the
machine you are using. (Check the BI Publisher tab's About box in Microsoft
Word for the full path to the tmp folder. If it doesn't exist, create it.)
Demonstration Scopes
1. Import the RTF template and create the BI Publisher report template.
2. Add the BI Publisher report template to your extract definition delivery options.

Sign on as curtis.feitty to go to the Welcome page.
3. On the global area Navigator menu, under Tools, select Reports and
Analytics.
Information
This will open a new tab in the browser for Business Intelligence and display a
Create Report window after several moments.
5. In the Create Report window, click Cancel, and then click OK.
9. Toward the top of the window, click the Search icon button.
10. In the Select Data Model window select the globalReportsDataModel data
model.
Information
You will find this data model in the following hierarchy: Shared Folders >
Human Capital Management > Payroll > Data Models.

You should see globalReportsDataModel selected above your template.
13. In the Save As window, click the HCM Demo Content folder.
In this activity you created the BI Publisher report template from your RTF template
Students needs to receive from instructor the RTF file created during Demonstration 7
so they can create the report

Edit Extract Definition page.
1. Navigate to the Edit Extract Definition page for your XX HR Data Extract:

This is the path and report template you saved in the previous activity.

The extract process that you submit in the next activity is updated.
In this activity you configured the extract delivery options for your extract definition to
use the new report template in BI Publisher.
Students needs to receive the XML file with the HCM Extract Definition created during
Demonstration 1 to 5, edit that extract definition to create the delivery option

Activity Scope
Run the extract process and view the results.

Sign on as hcm_impl and to go to the Welcome page.
4. In the Flow Pattern column, select the row containing XX HR Data Extract,
where XX is your initials.
Information
This is the name of the extract run you are initiating. You use this name to search
for its status and results later.
7. In the Effective Date field, use the date picker to select today's date.
12. Click the Refresh icon button ( ) until the Status column shows tasks have
completed.

This can take a minute.
13. Click the Go to Task icon button ( ).

If your task status is Error ( ), click the Process 123456 link, where 123456 is
your process number. This will display the ESS Output page. Click the View Log
icon button ( ), click the link to contents of the log file, and work with your
instructor to resolve any problems.
15. In the View Results window, click the file name, DeptEmployees.rtf.
16. In the Open window, accept the default to open with Microsoft Office Word, and
click the OK button.
Information
Word with convert the RTF format and present it with formatting based on the
report in BI Publisher. The report includes employee data organized by
department.
In this activity, you ran an extract process and viewed its results.
Solution: Ensure that the path to the report is correct in the extract delivery options. It
must be exactly as set in Activity 8 and must end with the .xdo file extension.
Solution 1: Ensure that the criteria expression for the Departments data group has
‘%Support%’ exactly as shown. This is case sensitive and percentage sign and single
quotes are required. Also check other criteria for typos.
Solution2: Ensure that the extract delivery options show the report name and template
name exactly as created and that the name of the report has the .xdo extension.
Cause/Solution: The wrong level was selected in the Table Wizard when creating the
RTF. Repeat the steps in Activity 7 and ensure you select the grouping field that ends
with “Departments” when creating the first table.
In this activity, you view available reports, data model diagrams, and database tables in
Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER).

3. In the left-hand section of the page, under enter Search String, enter Human
Capital Management Reports.

5. From the search results, select Human Capital Management Reports, Version
11.1.8.0.
8. Open the Excel file and view all available reports. Filter in the Product column to
narrow results.

- HcmTop-HcmExtractsTop-HcmExtractsSetup.pdf.
