From Your Pastor,
Let’s pretend for a moment.
Your banker calls you with some good news. An anony-
mous donor has decided to deposit into your account
86,400 pennies each morning for the rest of your life.
There is only one stipulation. You must spend all the mon-
ey the day you receive it. None can be saved and carried
over to the next day. What you do not spend, the bank will
cancel.
So you smile, and begin adding. The 86,400 pennies is $864
each day. That is over $6,000 a week, $315 thousand a
year. For the rest of your life. You smile again.
O.K. Pretend time is over. Here is the true picture. Each
day our God gives you 86,400 seconds of time. That is 1440
minutes which is one 24 hour day. The stipulation is the
same. You must use it all. It can’t be carried to the next
day. Someone wrote “Life is like a coin. You can spend it
anyway you want to, but you can spend it only once.”
The Psalmist wrote “Lord, teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Here are some suggestions for 2019:
1) Life is not a dress rehearsal, so live each day fully with
joy and purpose. There are no “do-overs”.
2) Live a life of service. We are best to ourselves when we
are good to others. Helen Keller said “I find life an exciting
business-and most exciting when it is lived for others.”
Jesus said “The greatest among you is a servant.”
3) Don’t hold a grudge. We should learn to forgive. It is
good to have a good memory. It is also good to have a
good forgetter. Anger and bitterness consume the contain-
er that holds them. “Forgetting those things which are be-
hind and reach for those that are before, I press toward
the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 3:13-14)
4) Keep a sense of humor. Abraham Lincoln was right.
“Most folks are about as happy as they make their minds
up to be.” Learn to laugh at yourself too. When Lincoln
was accused of being two-faced he replied “If I had anoth-
er face, you think I’d be wearing this one?” The Bible says
“A merry heart does good like “medicine.”
5) Put 2019 into God’s hands. In 1939 King George VI quot-
ed a poem during his Christmas message.
“I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year. Give
me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.” And
he replied “Go out into the darkness and put your hand
into the hand of God. That shall be better than light and
safer than a known way.”
6) Finally, count all your blessings and remember your
dreams.

From Your Pastor Search Committee
The Eastmont Pastor Search Committee that was
approved by the church at the regularly scheduled busi-
ness meeting on Wednesday, November 28th, has al-
ready had a couple of meetings. That committee is
composed of Cindy Pitts, Courtney Corum, Brian Clem-
ents, Travis Jordan, David Seay, Jerry Short, and chair-
man, Brian Key. We have established a regular weekly
meeting time, and a ‘backup’ meeting time when sched-
uling conflicts arise.
We take Eastmont’s confidence in us very seriously, and
have committed to regular prayer, Bible study, and
fasting. We invite all who are willing to join us in praying
for us to recognize God’s will in this very serious matter.
We also invite everyone to join us in reading and study-
ing the New Testament books of I and II Timothy, and
Titus, which focus on the Apostle Paul’s instruction to
young pastors. We will be sharing a guide to studying
these books in the near future. Finally, we encourage all
who are medically able, to join us in periodic fasting. We
will soon share guidelines about that, as well.
We also will be soliciting input from Eastmont members
soon, in an organized manner, in order to better under-
stand, as much as possible, who Eastmont is, and who
we need to become. We will report our progress and
prayer needs on a regular basis through the Encourager
and other methods.

WORSHIP CHOIR
Worship Choir rehearsals will resume January 2, 2019.
We are beginning preparations for The Montgomery
Passion Play. Get in touch with the Music and Worship
Office if you are interested in being a part of drama,
choir or orchestra for this wonderful Easter Program.
STUDENT CHOIR
Our next generation of worship leaders are bright. The
Student Choir rehearses every Sunday at 4PM in the
choir suite.
Join us as we serve our Lord through music.
KIDZ CHOIR
Kidz Choir will resume Sunday Night, January 6, 2019
Our children are working hard on our program! We will
present PARABLELOOZA in the 10:30 service on Feb 3.
There is still time for your child to be a part! We meet
each Sunday night 4:45-6:15.
1st-6th Grade drop off at the basketball court, pick up in
the choir suite.
Pre-k meets in the children’s wing.

Sunday Morning Teacher/Coordinator Meetings
Breakfast @ 8 AM, Room 313. This is a vital Team Meeting
that builds unity and provides insight into our growth. Our
upcoming meetings: Jan. 6th, Feb. 3rd, March 10
Sunday Morning Teachers / Coordinator Appreciation
Supper - Friday, January 11th. 6:00 pm @ Gail’s Down the
Street - no cost. Spouses included and childcare provided
upon request. Deadline to register is January 6th.
Basketball - K– 3rd season begins January 8th and contin-
ues each Monday through February 25th @ Eastern Hills
Baptist. 4th - 6th grade season will be played on Saturdays
@ True Divine in January and February. Sunday practice @
4:00 pm for K– 3rd grade only.
Bible Drill starts Sunday, December 6th @ 4:00 pm in
Fellowship Hall
Alabama Bible Drill Retreat @ Shocco Springs Jan. 25 - 26

WINTER RETREAT
The Strength to Stand Conference is January 19-21. Regis-

The dates for DNow are February 15-17. Cost for the

SUMMER MISSION TRIP
June 23-29, 2019, the student ministry will travel to St.
Louis, Missouri, to partner with Street Reach St. Lou-
is. Registration will begin in January. Save the date for
now.
SUPER SUMMER ALABAMA
July 8-12, students may attend SSAL at Samford Universi-
ty. This camp develops students' faith with emphasis on
disciple making. To attend, students will be expected to
complete a list of prerequisites set forth by the SSAL staff
and our student pastor.
