Leadership is not something that you can learn from someone or imitate
someone in life but rather something that comes naturally as we grow. We can see this
from simple act in life. For example, as we play when we were young, we tell each other
not to run fast otherwise we will fall or we take the first step to organize a game and tell
everyone what to do. This simple act motion goes a long way in creating a leadership
mind. At times we are encouraged by great leaders or the words of wisdom that they
have shared with us.
However all great leaders will have their own enemy that keeps them from
becoming great leaders. One of them is being in our own comfort zone. As a child we
all need a comfort zone, a security blanket. However as we grow older, we need to slip
off that blanket and take those chances that make us stretch and reach outside of our
usual experiences. Unfortunately, too many adults still exist within their comfort zones.
Every day we as human beings work and live within our own comfort zones.
Sometimes, we actually stretch an arm or leg outside of this protected environment. And
then we experience an arm being hit or misstep and we quickly return to our comfort
zone. For the world is a very dangerous place, full of chances and failures.
Behaviour and character of a person also can prevent someone from becoming
a leader. Attitude such as greed, aggression, anger, dishonest, intolerance, etc can all
lead to being negative and have great impact in becoming a leader. Quality that one
possesses needs to be constantly assessed and improved and changed in order to
achieve that great success of becoming a true leader. Attitude can become an enemy if
it is not managed in a proper way.
Location or birth place can also have an advert effect to leadership qualities.
Being born and raised in a slump or in underprivileged condition with very less chance
of survival and proper education can also become an enemy in the eyes of leadership.
Surroundings of people whom only thinks about surviving day to day does not have time
to think of being leader except providing sufficient shelters and food on the table.
Family History or generation family history that has proven track records of
leaders is also another factor that denies leadership for those whom do not have this
special character. For example in India, the family generation of Jawaharlal Nehru has
been producing leaders after leaders right from the day of Indias independence. He was
followed by his only daughter Indira Gandhi and then followed by her son Rajiv Gandhi
and upon his assassination, the leadership was taken by his wife Sonia Gandhi and
now her son Rahul Gandhi. This means that a generation and history of family plays an
important role in producing great leaders however those without the family history of
leaders lacks this leadership.
The list goes on and on however being a great leader requires someone to be
really independent and clear in making rational decision. Those decision shall be made
to ensure it doesn't affect people directly. Therefore someone can be prevented from
being a great leader for many reason however should someone possess true
determination and will power nothing will stop in their way of becoming true leaders.
