Introduction
Choose an organisation of your choice or for the scenario for Lidl which is one of the world’s leading food
distribution company with more than 10,000 stores across Europe and the United States. Today Lidl, part of
the Schwarz group, is one of the major retail operators in Germany and as international group it has an
important role in Europe. The first supermarkets have been opened in the 70’s. Lidl has continued his growth
in the 80’s in Germany, entering in the international market in the 90’s. Currently there are supermarkets in
almost all European countries.
Nowadays Lidl is one of the most developed discount chain in Europe. Also in the future Lidl will keep playing
an important role in the development of new markets, offering as always the best value for money harmony.
Scenario:
As a newly appointed Human Resource Manager towards staff management for the new branch, planning to
be opened in Malta and responsible for Lidl or an organisation of your choice, please address the Learning
Outcomes and Assessment Criteria’s as specified below.
The Human Resources (HR) department will be restructured based on the findings of a review report, which
you have been asked to complete. You are to review the effectiveness of the HR function within the chosen
organisation or Lidl, researching the role and scope of HR and reviewing and assessing the main HR functions
within the organisation.
