BOSCH IP CCTV CASE STUDY

Multi Level Building IP Video Surveillance

The Scenario

BOSCH IP CCTV video solutions enabled for a multilevel Building surveillance,

with total 100 cameras, to be monitored from a central control room and
different remote locations. In addition other Council services could be offered
through the extended network.

Benefits
• Speed of implementation
• A further service delivered over the IP Network
• Scaleable - potential to expand the system easily
• Cost effective deployment when compared to an analogue fiber
system
• Seamless integration into the existing IT infrastructure

Performance Objection

The Bosch Encoder units convert analogue signals to very high quality digital
video for transmission over an IP network at a guaranteed 25 frames per
second. This allows Bosch Encoder technology to capture and record video
from complex fast moving scenes without dropping frames.

The key to this method of application delivery was low latency, i.e. a ‘near
analogue’ and ‘real-time’ look and feel to the control room operators. This
allowed the CCTV users to apply their normal operational procedures as if the
camera was next door.

System Design

The IP CCTV portfolio covers every aspect – Image capture and transmission,
storage and Video Management.

The bridge between analog fixed cameras and networks, the encoders (Video
Servers) create streams of digital video that can be viewed using Bosch
VIDOS Video Management Software, web browser or another decoder for
viewing on a monitor.

Bosch Network Video Recorder software provides a long term storage and
retrieval solution for video and audio. Storage will be three key components
Management Software, an NVR Server platform and RAID 5 storage.

The solution

The system consists of total 100 cameras, 90 Fixed Dome cameras and 10
High speed Dome cameras. The cameras are distributed all over the
buildings. Analog Video signals are connected to different types of Bosch
Encoders; it’s depends up on the location and number of cameras. High
Speed dome cameras control data connected to respective Encoders with
Video signal.

respective location Network Switch ports. Total 3 Nos Bosch VIDOS NVR
Servers with RAID Storage units and 9 Nos. VIDOS Clients PC connected to
the same Network infrastructure.8- Channel encoders having built in internal
Hard Disks for local storage, in case of any Network failure it will store locally
once network restored locally stored videos moved to NVR.

In Main Control room 3 VIDOS Clients are running in three different PC, each
client having one CCTV Keyboard to control PTZ cameras, along with 6 analog
monitors for control operator monitoring purpose with the help of Decoders.

There are 6 different VIDOS remote monitoring stations with CCTV

Keyboards, each user can live viewing, control any PTZ cameras and play
back recordings.

In Security manager Bosch VIDOS Video wall running in PC with large size
plasma screen, its showing full screen live video with single or multi screen
window for monitoring purpose, like 2x2.3x3,4x4 etc.

VIDOS - Video Management Software

The Bosch VIDOS Video Management System software package that runs on
a non-proprietary PC workstation to provide the installation, administration,
and operation of video surveillance systems using MPEG-2 and MPEG-4
video compression technology via local networks. The product searches and
locates all Bosch transmitting and receiving stations (video servers and
decoders), video monitors, and recording devices installed on the network,
and then allows a system administrator to add these devices to the system
configuration using an explorer style resource tree structure manage and
construct a functional GUI observation center via the software.

The software functionally operates as a virtual network video matrix system

capable of 1) switching video to software monitors within the Vidos
Management System window on the workstation and/or 2) displaying the
pictures on analog CCTV monitors when compatible manufacturer
recommended decoders are installed on the network. The software
supports all Bosch MPEG-2 and/or MPEG-4 based hardware products as well
as the Bosch Vidos-NVR Network Video Recorder.

The VMS specified an enterprise level software package that offers a

complete video surveillance solution scalable from one to hundreds of
cameras where each camera may be added on a unit-by-unit basis.

The VMS shall support IP network connectivity, including LAN, WAN, VPN,
Internet, and Wireless (WiFi and Cellular) technologies. The Bosch VIDOS
VMS supports IP Multicast (UDP) and Unicast (TCP or UDP) video streaming
and well as Multi-unicast.

8 - Channel Encoder

The 8-channel network video server whose primary functions are to

1) Encode PAL video into MPEG-4, DVD-like quality video for transmission
and control via a 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet LAN and the Internet and
2) Provide long term storage of the MPEG-4 video in its local hard drive. The
unit is designed for use in CCTV applications.

The server is capable of simultaneously encoding 30 images per second of

non-multiplexed, video for each of the eight channels. The network server is
available with 120, 240, 600, or 800GB internal storage drives to allow the
server to function as a DVR to provide local, long term video recording of the
MPEG-4 video streams. The server is also capable of sending images to a
network video recorder (NVR) for long term archiving. External alarms to the
server may trigger the device to record and/or transmit video to other
devices on the network. A bi-directional serial interface is available to
remotely control pan/tilt/zoom equipped cameras.

Single Channel Encoder

The single channel Encoder, high-performance IP video encoder

designed for use in CCTV systems and whose primary unction is to encode
video and control data for transmission over an IP network to remote CCTV
monitors and PCs. The encoder is capable of producing MPEG-4 video at the
rate of 30 images per second with DVD-quality 4CIF resolution. The encoder
accepts analog video input from fixed or PTZ cameras and then provides
MPEG-4 IP video to the network. The unit also receives control data from the
network for control of Bosch or compatible PTZ cameras. The encoder
supports NTSC, PAL, EIA, and CCIR camera sources.

Dual Channel Encoder

The dual-channel Encoder, high-performance IP video encoder

designed for use in CCTV systems and whose primary function is to encode
two channels of video and control data for transmission over an IP network to
remote CCTV monitors and PCs. The encoder is capable of producing two
MPEG-4 video streams per camera input at the rate of 30 images per second
with DVD-quality 4CIF resolution. The encoder accepts analog video input
from fixed or PTZ cameras and then provides MPEG-4 IP video to the
network. The unit also receives control data from the network for control of
Bosch or compatible PTZ cameras. The encoder supports NTSC, PAL, EIA, and
CCIR camera sources.

Decoder

The Decoder is designed for use in CCTV systems to function as an

MPEG-4 network video server. This receiver is capable of decoding up to
4CIF resolution at 30 images per second video data and transmitting control
signals over 10/100 Base-T data networks such as Ethernet LAN and the
Internet. The decoder may simultaneously receive up to four video streams
from one or more compatible MPEG-4 transmitters and be capable of
displaying the video in quad view as four CIF resolution quality pictures at
30 images per second. External alarm inputs may be used to automatically
trigger system functions.

A separate composite video output from the decoder allows up to 4CIF quality
resolution video at 30 images per second to be displayed on a standard CCTV
monitor. This specified MPEG-4 decoder, used in conjunction with a
compatible MPEG-4 encoder via the network, can be used as a stand-alone,
point-to-point system to receive video and transmit control data without the
need for a PC.
