1. PURPOSE: - To establish a system for Operation, Maintenance and cleaning of Belt Conveyors.

2. SCOPE: - Applicable to lime stone crusher, raw material handling, raw mill feeding & reject material,
coal handling, coal mill feeding, gypsum and clinker extraction and cement mill feeding and reject
coarse belt.

3. DEFINITIONS:-
3.1 HOD- Head of Department
3.2 MECH-Mechanical
3.3 PPEs- Personal Protective Equipment
3.4 SI-Section in charge

4. RESPONSIBILITY: - HOD (MECH) is over all responsible. All section In-charges (SI).

5. DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: - During the operation of belt conveyors , feeding from stockpile to
hopper & then hopper to ball mills, following work instructions should be followed to avoid/minimize the
dust emission from the transfer points/belt conveyors.

6. A. OPERATION OF BELT CONVEYOR :-

All the operatives to be instructed to use PPE’s i.e. Dust Mask,

5.A.1 Helmet, Hand Gloves, Ear Plugs etc. while working near the belt SI
conveyor.
5.A.2 Only competent person may be deployed for the operation of the SI
Belt Conveyors.
5.A.3 The above persons are instructed not to wear loose cloths. SI
5.A.4 Checking of all the pull cords and other equipments and safety SI
devices provided in the system. Hooter signal to be given to other
working crew working in the adjacent area, to protect themselves
and remove all the material from the nearby area.
5.A.5 It is ensured that belt conveyor is not overfilled to avoid spillage of SI
material.
Proper operation of dust collectors and there should be proper SI

suction in the transfer point.
If fugitive emission is there near the transfer points following points SI

should be checked /rectified.
5.A.8 It is ensured that all venting line is clear at all the transfer points. SI
Plugging of entry of false air from dust collector & from ckt.

5. B. CLEANING BELOW BELT CONVEYOR:-

5.B.4 No work is performed in belt conveyor during running of belt conveyor. SI

5.B.6 Operating it checks pull cord/sway switch. SI
The Guards to be placed properly in tail drum to protect the person

from any eventuality while cleaning below the tail drum.

5. C. CLEANING OF DISCHARGE CHUTE:-

APPLICATION OF THE PROCEDURE:

RECORDS:

a) Proper record should be maintained in shift log register /maintenance register related with
operation and maintenance jobs.
b) Safety i.e. work permits should be maintained as per the safety requirement.
