Thank you for your interest the our production of The Sound

of Music, G2K. We are going to have a blast putting this production together! Below you will the information
needed to register for auditions. Please carefully read and add student and parent signatures where applicable
and bring the printed and signed Audition Packet and Actor Contract to your first audition during the week of
January 7, 2019.

Audition Packet, Actor Contract

Students Interested in Non-Speaking Roles:
● All students should memorize and be prepared to sing the audition segment of The Sound of Music. This
will be the only portion of the audition for students who are not interested in a speaking role.

Students Interested in Speaking Roles:

● All students interested in a speaking role should memorize a 1-minute monologue and the required
song for the character(s) of most interest. ( please refer to the Power Point Files for each audition song
found on The Sound of Music Google Classroom) All audition audio tracks and Sheet Music can be
found on our Google Classroom, too. If you do not know how to pick a monologue, do not worry -
there are many monologues to choose from. Simply refer to the Audition Monologue document found
under the sound files on Google Classroom. You can also see Mr. Wright for additional help selecting a
monologue or song.

Auditions- Week of January 7th:

On the days of your audition, bring homework to work on, snacks, and water to keep you hydrated and
energized. Auditions may run late, so please plan accordingly.

● Monday, January 7th: All company members and crew members who are not trying out for a
speaking role. Usually all backstage crew members are company members, too. Due to space
constraints we do not typically have non performing students working backstage. Providing that we
have space to accommodate, we will consider allowing students who would prefer to only work
backstage and not perform to do so. The process to clarify this interest will be as follows: In such a
case that a student prefers to be a non performing crew members, they must report to Monday’s
audition. They will be encouraged to be a cast member to ensure they can also be a crew member. In
the case that a student is dead set on only being a crew member, they will be instructed that the
possibility of such accommodations will be finalized and announced at the same document we will use
to post the Cast List.
● Tuesday, January 8th: All interested students who wish to have a speaking role.

● Thursday, January 10th: Callback. Though, very unlikely, a second day of callbacks may need to be
scheduled on Friday, January 11.

On Your Audition Day(s):

● Please arrive for your audition at least 10 minutes early. If you are not on time for your audition, we will
be moving on.
● You must bring your completed audition application, a picture of yourself to go on your audition form,
actor contract, and Registration Fee. The Registration Fee is $35 and is a fair share fee that applies to
all students whether performing or backstage. (Audition Fee will be clarified in greater detail below)
● The callback list will be posted on the evening of Wednesday January 9th. If you are not asked to come
back for callbacks, it does not mean you are not cast.
● For callbacks, the production panel will be trying to fit people in roles. You will be asked to do acting
and singing and some dancing (if applicable).
○ For the acting portion, you will be asked to do cold readings from the script. All cold reading
slides and song selections can be found on google classroom under call backs.
○ For the singing portion of callbacks, you may be asked to perform multiple songs if we are
considering you for multiple roles. We recommend you review all call back songs on Google
Classroom.
○ Please note, while it is our hope that all material is memorize for the first round of auditions,
callbacks will not be required to be memorized. It will help you to do research into the show -
what is the play about? who are the characters? What are their relationships? Beyond the
documents and files found on Google Classroom, the internet has a great deal of information
about this show and the more information you have, the more detailed your audition will be.

Posting the Cast List:

The cast list will be posted on canvas on Friday evening January 11th or at latest on January 12th. Please
sign the cast list next to your name and role in the show.

Rehearsals and Directors Expectations During the Run:

● First lead practice Monday, January 14th! First Company Practice, Thursday, January 17th.
● Students should plan to attend ALL scheduled rehearsals, unless conflict has been articulated in writing
in advance.

www.thesoundofmusicwpm.weebly.com The calendar will be updated each Sunday evening. Leads

weeks of the production process Company members may only be called a couple of times per week. All
weekly practice schedules will also be updated and emailed to parents on Sunday afternoons.
● At each rehearsal, students are expected to bring water, snacks, and a pencil (or five!). It also helps to
have a binder dedicated to the show for notes and your script.

focus will be strictly prohibited during rehearsal time. Cell phones will be collected at the top of each
rehearsal and given back to the students at the conclusion of rehearsal.

Once a student is cast in the show or placed on crew, parents/guardians will be asked to help. There are a
variety of jobs that we need parent help- including box office, water bottle donations, painting sets, finding
props, assisting with costumes/ tech, backstage help, dressing room help, make up help, and more! It means
alot to the students when their parents are involved and it helps the directors out a ton!

Registration Fee:
● The Registration Fee is $35 and is a fair share fee that applies to all students whether performing or
backstage. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid in full prior to being allowed to audition, unless
financial assistance has been requested ahead of the audition date (See next paragraph).
● If a family would like to request financial assistance, please contact Mr. Wright prior to the first audition.
Our Booster Club will work with families who request financial assistance and ensure that all students
are capable of participating. Please note that the cast and crew size will be limited to 65 students for
safety purposes. In the unlikely case that a student auditions, yet does not get cast, or in the event a
student chose to be a non performing crew member at the January 7 audition, but space prohibited us
from confirming this possibility as we post the cast list document, then a refund to that student will apply
and the fee will be refunded immediately. In all other cases the fee is non-refundable.
