On September 5th the Postmaster General
dedicated a stamp commemorating the life
of Mother Teresa at a ceremony at the
Basilica of the National Shrine of the
Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
The U.S. Postal Service said, “The stamp
program recognizes Mother Teresa for her work as a
humanitarian. She was a Nobel Peace Prize recipient,
she was an honorary U.S. citizen. Her work on behalf of
the poor is being recognized. And this honor is being
bestowed on her, and it is well deserved.”

STEWARDSHIP: A Treasured Dollar: (Continued from last
week) Deeply Moved, a great struggle came over the little boy
when the offering plate was passed. He continued the story:
“However, the Lord won, and I put my treasured dollar in the
offering basket. And I am convinced that the reason God blessed
me so richly is that when I was a boy, I gave God everything I
possessed!” The congregation was all caught up in his testimonial
when a little old lady in front piped up and said, “Mister, I dare you
to do it again!”

October, Month of the Holy Rosary
In recognition of October as the month of the Holy Rosary,
members of the Holy Rosary and Altar Society will be
leading parishioners who attend the Saturday Evening
Mass in a recitation of the Rosary. The Recitation will
begin promptly at 4:30 PM in the church and will end in
time for the beginning of the 5 PM Mass. Rosaries will be
distributed to those who do not have any. The five
Glorious Mysteries will be cited, and the Rosary will
be said for the intentions of our Holy Father,
Pope Benedict. This will be done only at
the 5 PM Saturday Night Masses in October!

This week we will hear from our Youth Minister, Tom
Viola. Before we do I would like to announce that at our
Pastoral Council Meeting on January 29th, we elected
new officers for the upcoming term. Our new president is
Bill Cromwell, and our new Vice President is Glenna
Connolly. I would like to thank Bill and Glenna not only
for saying yes to the council, but also for all that they do
for the parish. I look forward to working with the council in
the upcoming year.
I would also like to take this time to thank Jon Clason,
the outgoing president, and Bill Cromwell, the outgoing
vice president, for all that they contributed during their
time as officers of the council.
Next weekend members of the Pastoral Council will
speak briefly at all the Masses to introduce themselves
and their service to the parish.
On October 24th the Assumption College for Sisters
will join us at the 10 am Mass. The college, located in
Mendham, is a liberal arts college for women religious
from around the world.
TOM VIOLA - YOUTH MINISTER
Dear Parish Family,
If you have been reading the Youth Ministry section of the
bulletin, you already know that throughout the Summer I
have provided a weekly ‘column’ regarding prayer, its
impact on my life, and ways by which to apply it all of our
faith lives. The following, of which I commented on, truly
stands out to me: “He is like the light of morning at
sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after
rain that brings the grass from the earth.”– 2 Samuel 23:4.
In my Ministry, I am called to aide the faith lives of the
youth in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish. The Youth
Ministry Program offers teens a myriad of activities and
events throughout the year. This does not, of course,
come without compromise, as youth today are far more
involved in what is available to them than in the past, from
sports and clubs, to plays and musicals. In fact, most
young people could tell you what their friends are doing in
an instant through updates on Facebook or Twitter, but
not a lot of youth can tell you where they stand in their
faith.
Why is it that a teen presents as ‘lost’ when questioned
about his or her faith? Is Church involvement to blame?
Faith is more than just being involved in a Church or a
Youth Group; faith is realizing and growing in a
relationship with Jesus Christ. How can we help our
youth to realize this relationship? This can be answered
through our own actions. The youth of this Parish are not
unlike any other teens; they require encouragement,
support, and positive regard from family and friends. This
can be accomplished as simply as serving as a positive
role model or as intricately as discussing the topic of faith
with a teenager.
When reflecting on the before mentioned Bible quote, I
commented on our ability to begin our day with prayer and
the benefits of same. Today, I re-visit this quote to appeal
to the members of our Parish to reach out to the youth to
help strengthen their faith so they too can realize the glory
of Jesus Christ’s presence in their lives. As Youth
Minister, I am but one person encouraging and guiding to
the best of my abilities, but as a Parish, we are children of
the Lord spreading His word, supporting that all things are
possible through prayer.

Mark This Year's Calendar - November 7, 2010
Our 60th Anniversary Gala will begin with Mass at 3 pm
celebrated by Bishop John Flesey, D.D.. Mass will be
followed by a reception from 5 - 9 pm at the Hasbrouck
Heights Hilton. Good food, fun, fellowship, and great
dancing with a fabulous live band.
There are still some tickets available for our gala.

MASS OF ANOINTING
On Saturday, October 16, 2010, our parish will celebrate a
communal Anointing of the Sick Mass at 11:00 am and
blessing of the E.M.Ts. This sacrament may be received
more than once and is for any person who has become ill
and is in danger of subsequent sickness. We especially
encourage the elderly to be candidates, but anyone facing
major surgery, a serious illness, or anyone who has been
afflicted for a long time is invited to receive the sacrament.
A light lunch will be served in our auditorium immediately
following the Mass.

How do I schedule a Baptism? - Baptisms are scheduled once a month during the year (except during Lent). Arrangements must
be made in advance by calling the rectory during business hours. Parents must be registered members of the parish
(on our parish mailing list). Parents are required to attend an instruction session the week before.
Sacrament of Marriage - Please make arrangements at least one year in advance.
Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick - Anyone sick or housebound, or who is going to the hospital for tests or surgery,
please call a priest at the Rectory.
R.C.I.A.- (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) - is the process the Catholic Community provides to welcome adults who wish to
become Catholic and to prepare adult Catholics to receive Confirmation (and, when needed, First Eucharist).
Please contact Fr. Kevin for more information. Meets Tuesday evening 7:00 PM in the Rectory Basement.
Religious Education - Classes meet on Sunday mornings from 8:30 - 9:50 AM for grades 1-8. Office hours for the Religious
Education Center are Mon.-Fri. 9:30-11:30am - 1:00-4:00pm; evenings by appt.
What about my ‘Teenager’? - Our parish has a very active “Youth Ministry” program for the youth of our parish.
Our Youth Group takes part in Retreats held in the Archdiocese and also participates in various functions that are held within our
parish. See our calendar of events in this bulletin.
Rosary Society - Meetings as announced in Bulletin.
Legion of Mary - Meets every Tuesday morning in the lower level of the Rectory at 9:30 AM.
Alive In the Spirit - A charismatic prayer group meets every Wednesday at 7:30 PM in the lower level of the Rectory.
Choir - Come join the Music Ministry! The Family Choir meets from 6:30 - 7:30PM and the Adult Choir follows from 7:30 - 8:30PM

Bingo - Thursday evening at 7:30 PM.
Rosary - Prayed after the 8:30 AM Mass Monday-Saturday.
St. Pio (Padre Pio) Devotion - The first Friday of every month at 7:30 PM in the church.
Eucharistic Adoration - The first Saturday of each month following the 8:30 AM Mass until 10:00 AM, closing with Benediction.
Corpus Christi Adoration Chapel - Hasbrouck Heights, NJ /Monday through Thursday from 12 Noon to 10 PM.
Our Lady of Visitation Chapel - Paramus, NJ /Sundays from 2:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Sacred Heart Church - Rochelle Park, NJ /First
Fridays of the month from 8:30 AM - 8:30 AM Saturday. Every Thursday after 8 AM Mass for an hour.
Perpetual Adoration - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel - Ridgewood, NJ (24 hrs. - 7 days)
Bible Study - Classes meets mornings and evenings. Discussions and sharing will be on the Gospel for the coming Sunday.

Sponsor Certificates - If you are requesting a sponsor certificate for Baptism or Confirmation, you must be registered, practicing
and meet all Church requirements.
