Global Warming Assessment

Introduction

Global Warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near surface and ocean
since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. Most of the observed temperature increase
since the the middle of the 20th century has been caused by the increasing concentration of greenhouse
gases, which resulted from human activity such as burning of fossil fuel and deforestation.

The incessant changes in the industries and cultures sublimated the balance of nature. The
mileage of industrial revolution to the era of Internet and technological breakthrough have provided the
huge factor as to why the world suffered from the irreconcilable effects of global warming. It was too late
for the governments, businesses and organizations to look at the possible consequences of a future
catastrophe. The world's biggest nations have been looking into the possible yet effective legislation to
regulate humanity from the recklessness to nature.

Causes

External Forcings
-refers to the processes external to the climate that influence climate. Climate responds
to several types of external forcing, such as radiative forcing due to changes in atmospheric composition
changes in solar luminosity, volcanic eruptions, and variations in Earth's orbit around the Sun.

I. Greenhouse Gases
Greenhouse effect - the process by which absorption and emission of infrared
radiation by gases in the atmosphere warm a planet's lower atmosphere and surface. It was proposed by
Joseph Fourier in 1824 and was first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896. The
question in terms of global warming is how the strength of the presumed greenhouse effect changes
when human activity increases the concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

II. Aerosols and Soot

Global dimming, a gradual reduction in the amount of global direct irradiance at
the Earth's surface, has partially counteracted global warming from 1960 to the present. The main cause
of this dimming is aerosols produced by volcanoes and pollutants. These aerosols exert a cooling effect by
increasing the reflection of incoming sunlight.

III. Solar Variation

Variations in solar output have been the cause of past climate changes. The
consensus among climate scientists is that changes in solar forcing probably had a slight cooling effect in
recent decades. This result is less certain than some others, with a few papers suggesting a warming
effect.

Effects

The world has started to act strange. With floods inundating entire countries and fires scorching
vast forests; with storms lashing out against battered islands and quakes shaking the earth more
violently, it is very obvious that global warming was a result of human activity.

Several measures may be implemented on this war against global warming but if we do not start
changing our habits and embrace what is acceptable, then it might be too late to save the planet.
