Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Opening Rite: Ringing of Thai Bell

Opening Prayer and Call to Worship

(inspired by 1 Corinthians 1: 18-31, 1 Corinthians 3:18-20)

Leader: O God,
We trust in Your power,
People: Even as it is often found in weakness;

Leader: In Your wisdom,

People: Even as it is expressed in seeming foolishness;

Leader: In Your wholeness,

People: Even as it comes to us amid brokenness.

Leader: We do not ask this day for dazzling displays of strength,

electric exercises of intellectual prowess,
or marvelous manifestations of miracles.

People: We come simply to worship You.

Touch us this day, O Lord, sinners that we are,
that we might become Your saints,
Your body, Your children, Your church.
For this Temple of Your Spirit
is built not upon our own abilities, knowledge, or restorative skill,
but upon You, in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Opening Song:
There is a Longing
(Lights Off)

Call to Reconciliation:
(All Kneel)
Leader: The One who knew us before we were born knows our secret failings. The One who
saw us in our mothers' wombs sees into our shadowed hearts. The One who bends down to
listen to our words will speak grace and hope to us.

Unison Prayer of Confession:

Patient God, we must confess that our love is not what we would hope. We are so focused on
ourselves, the needs of others dim in our eyes. We secretly rejoice in the miseries of those
around us, knowing that they must have done something to deserve such lives. We push our
families and friends away by insisting they do everything our way.

Forgive us, Faithful Deliverer. Rescue us from ourselves, so we might become your people.
Touch us with the faith, the hope, the love of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, so we might
be made whole.

(A time for silent confession)

Assurance of Pardon:

Leader: God's love never ends! Now, we know

we are forgiven; now, we know we are
healed.

People: Now, we can bear all things, believe

all things, hope all things, endure all
things. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 5: 1-12A

Reflection: Shiela Paradeza

Prayers of the People:

(Flower Offering and reading of Prayer Cards. Soft Guitar music on the background during flower offering
rite.)

Leader: Like these flowers that need to be put back in the container with the water in order to
live, we need to be in contact with God to be whole and to know life in its fullness. Today, Jesus
gave us the Eight Beatitudes at the Sermon on the Mount to help us receive His life-giving Spirit
and reach the Kingdom of Heaven.
Let us recite the prayer we have written in our card and place one of the scattered flowers back
into the vase as an offering, to ask our Lord Jesus Christ’s Divine Favor upon us. May our
prayers ascend His Holy Mountain. After each petition, our response is:

People: Lord hear our prayer.

(When the vase is full it will be placed on the altar as a collective offering).

Closing Song:

Final Prayer: (Inspired by Matthew 5: 1-12)

Blessed in the midst of God’s love

Blessed in the midst of our world
Blessed in what we feel…see…do
Blessed even in the times we find it hard
To see the blessing

Even then
We can know ourselves
As the children of God
Especially then
We can know…see…feel
God’s presence in our lives
Blessed…
God’s love in our lives
Given by the One
Who came to save
Blessed are you!

In the name of Christ we pray. Amen
