TRANSFER GOAL: The students in the long run and on their own will be able to

Reflect critically on communication breakdown and observe the appropriate language form in using a particular
style; and confidently use the English language in communication to others across settings and purposes,
making them good speakers during interviews, reports, and other speaking related activities; thereby, enriching
themselves as a good steward of God’s goodness and holiness.

ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING: Students will understand that

Communication is the art and process of creating and sharing ideas. Effective communication is a channel of
God’s desire to men and women to live harmoniously.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

How important is communication to alleviate conflicts in the society?

I. PRELIMINARIES (Differentiated activities related to real situations)

Review: If one of the 5 elements of communication is missing, will the communication still be
effective?

Focus: Models of Communication

Motivation: Imagine being in a long distance relationship with your best friend. You receive really
good news—your father has been promoted and is offered an opportunity to transfer to South Korea
with the whole family. You’re definitely excited because you’ll finally be able to meet some oppas.
You’re happy and want to share the news with your best friend without needing to travel to where she
lives. How will you do this?

APK (Activating Prior Knowledge): Have you ever experienced the need to communicate with
someone, but being worried that you might be misunderstood?

STRATEGY: MODELED TALK-SHOWING WHILE YOU TALK

Activities: (Acquisition of knowledge/skills through differentiated
activities/strategies which are aligned to TG, EU, EQ)

Pass the Message

The class will be grouped into 2. Each group will form a circle and one representative from each
group will pick a piece of paper containing a message from the box. They will return the piece of
paper to the teacher and go back to their respective groups. They will then whisper the message to
the person next to them, and the person next to them will do the same until the circle is complete.
The last person to receive the message will write the message on the board and get another piece
of paper. The game ends when there’s no more paper.

B. Broadening of Concept (Make meaning questions)

As individuals, why do we feel the need to communicate? What are the benefits of
communicating?

we communicate?

b. Social Orientation: Resolving Conflicts

How can you lessen situations of misunderstanding when you communicate with your friends or
family?

c. Lesson Across Discipline: History

How has the process of communication changed from past to present?

d. Faith/Biblical Reflection: Proverbs 14:29

“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick tempered displays folly.”

III. EVALUATION / ASSESSMENT (Transfer activities or questions that will address the six
facets of understanding)
Enactment

The class will be divided into 3 groups. They will be given 3 minutes to create their own specific
