Global Cooperation Under Siege

The Philippines were one of the founding members of the United Nations and would like to continue and
ensure diplomatic relations in such a forum. They are deeply committed to advancing democracy and
ensuring that nations work together to advance human rights across the globe, as this is in line with the
Philippines core ideals as a nation. As a country deeply impacted by its Southeast Asian neighbors, the
Philippines understands the globalization of all issues.

While the Philippines understands that cooperation between nations is essential in the modern age, it
stresses that national sovereignty should not be violated or sacrificed for the sake of cooperation. As a
member of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Philippines is dedicated to opposing foreign interference or
hostility. The Philippines has first hand account of such hostility in the form of terrorist attacks in Marawi
from ISIL terrorists. The Philippines is dedicated to repairing the affected areas of the terrorist attacks
and taking preventative measures to reduce the likelihood of future terror attacks.

Outlook of the Philippines

The Republic of the Philippines is an archipelagic state that was founded as Spanish colony in the 16th
century and was ceded to the US after the Spanish- American war. On July 4th, 1946 the Republic of the
Philippines attained its independence. It is a unitary state, and a constitutional republic with the current
president being Rodrigo Duterte. There have been many attempts in the past to change the government.

The war on drugs in the Philippines started in July, 2016 and has lead to nearly 4,000 reported deaths.
The Philippines encourages the death of any drug users. As said by President Rodrigo Duterte “if you
know any addicts, go ahead and kill them yourself as getting their parents to do it would be too painful”.
The Philippines founded the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute in 1958 and understands the
importance of safe and sustainable nuclear energy.

The Future of the Philippines

The Philippines is alarmed by the growing number of drug users and drug cartels and would like to
emphasize the importance of eliminating them. As spoken by President Rodrigo Duterte “Hitler
massacred three million Jews. Now there are three million drug addicts… I’d be happy to slaughter
them”. The Philippines recognizes the dangers associated with terrorist attacks and proposes to eradicate
ISIL as well as other terrorist organizations.

Given the location of the Philippines, the country is prone to many natural disasters such as typhoons,
landslides, earthquakes, tropical storms, etc. These natural disasters result in people being displaced
from their homes and people requiring aid. The Philippines urges other nations to help provide funding
towards building barriers in order to minimize the impacts natural disasters such as typhoons cause.

The refugee crisis is extensive and needs to be dealt with immediately as refugees in Syria and Myanmar
are suffering. The Philippines welcomes refugees and will continue welcoming refugees until the country
has reached maximum capacity. As for the refugees who are unable to leave their country, the
Philippines is willing to work with other nations to help create low cost solutions to temporarily provide
aid for the displaced people.
