My whole life I have never been to a barber, not once. I used to have a buzzed
haircut due to the military, and once i got out, i had to have longer hair for a
business environment, but didnt want to deal with it, so i got a flowbee (yes, i
actually have one, its kinda nice) and just cut my own hair.
Looking for something new though
Requirements:
a) Business appropriate, i'm mid to upper management, so
conservative
b) exceptionally low maintenance, if i have to spend more than 3-4
minutes on my hair in the morning thats too much
c) Prefer not to have to load up my hair with product of any sort
d) If possible, self-cuttable so i can keep being cheap and not going to
the stylist
e) Looks decent... i have no idea if my current style is bad or not, so
lay into to me, give me your worst.

Does facial hair thin with waxing?
enlace
[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 6 puntos 2 meses atrás
You should probably NOT wax your facial hair. Facial hair is very thick, and
facial skin is very thin. You will bleed, you could scar, or get hypo/hyper
pigmentation.
Laser hair removal is a better option.
If your facial hair is very light, thin, downy, you may be able to wax.

How can I get my hair to stay messy without it also being stiff from product?!
enlace
[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 1 punto 2 meses atrás
Don't use product. Instead just wash your hair very 7-10 days. If your hair
gets to oily, or had an odor, just lightly sprinkle baby powder into the roots.
Presto! Messy hair, no product.
enlace padre
[–] ViolentOctopus 2 puntos 2 meses atrás
I'm confused.. So don't wash my hair daily?? I have to work outside

[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 1 punto 2 meses atrás
You would still run hot water over your hair in the shower and scrub
with your hands. You'll be surprised.
Also, don't use gel. Gel hardens when it's dry. Use a cream pomade.
They have varying holds, from soft to very firm, but they are soft and
pliable in the hair. When dry, they should not even be sticky.

have very thick hair. How would I go about doing the baby powder
thing? And is there any particular brand of gel pomade I should
use?

cosmetologist should consider when looking for a salon to work for? How did
you build up your clientele, what are some tricks and services that helped
boost your clientele? What are somethings about working at a salon the schools
DO NOT tell you about that students should know? I also hope to specialize in
mens haircuts, what are some good resources for learning how to do great
mens haircuts and how did you build your clientele at a salon for that? I feel as
if most men would prefer to go to a barbershop or a super cuts and get their
hair done for $8. Also thank you for doing this AMA, I hope you have the times

been having!
enlace
[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 3 puntos 2 meses atrás
Ok.
-Consider what type of salon you want to work in. It sounds like you want to
work in an upscale men's barber shop. Go to the barber shops on your area.
Ask what qualifications they are looking for. Dress like them, talk and act
like them. If you do, you really will be one of them
-To build a clientele: don't talk about yourself. Talk about them. Keep notes
to remember important suff (birthdays, kids, vacation plans). Talk about
what you are doing. Explain how you are cutting the hair and why it's so
great. Men love to understand what the hell is going on. Explain what
products you are using and why. Refer to products and implements like
brushes as "tools", guys like that. Show him how to style his hair yourself,
then mess it up and let him recreate it. This way your sure he can do it at
home. Don't ask if he likes the hair cut. Men will think you're unsure. At the
end say:"I love it. What do you think?" walk him to reception and ask him to
rebook. Tell him that your books are almost full and that if he doesn't
rebook, he may not be able to get in. This is key.
-You need to look and act really successful. If you don't look and act really
classy and professional, you wont ever be successful.
-American Crew has an amazing class called the Men's Work Academy. It's
worth it. You can also look for reps in your area that teach men's hair
classes. Practice on every guy you know. Buy Oster 76 clipper and all of the
metal guards. Throw out your plastic clipper guards.
-Many men prefer an upscale barbershop experience, some just don't know
until they go there. Give them coupons.
-Don't stress. This industry is stressful, but it's also really fun! And there is
always room to grow and learn more.
Good luck! Hope I answered your questions.

What do you say is the best method for black heads? Also, what is the best way
to get rid of pimples? I am sixteen years old, and have moderate amount of
blackheads on my nose, and the occasional break out on my chin/mouth area,
so what is the way to treat those? Also I have pretty thick hair, with four
cowlicks (front left, front right, and the other two are mirrored approximately
where a baby's soft spot is) and is there anyway to "train" my hair so that it
doesn't stick up? Finally, what can I use in my hair for styling that doesn't
solidify? i.e; I want it to be soft to the touch and not shiny like gel makes your
hair, but I still want my hair to stay in place?
enlace
[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 2 puntos 2 meses atrás
Sorry to hear about your cow licks. With cowlicks like that, you want to go
either really short, or really messy and textured on top.
Black heads can be extracted. Go to your local beauty supply and ask for
tools to extract black heads. Do not force them out. Wait untill they are
ready.
Use pomade, not gel. Gel hardens. The right pomade will remain pliable and
soft.

lot of them tell me that I am lucky that I don't need to shave as often as

Is there a way I can make it happen? There are permenant hair removal

Get new DNA
Just kidding, sort of. Once hair has stopped growing, the follicle is usually
dead, not always though. The follicles may be clogged, so a shampoo
formulated for men with hair loss will help unclog them.
Sometimes the follicle is just sort of "sickly", for this you could go to an
esthetician and get high frequency done to your scalp. It's pretty cheap and
only takes a few minutes. You'll need it done several times though.
Wear sunscreen on your head, eat healthy, drink water.

The still applies, but you should look for estrogen in your diet. Many
products contain estrogen (like some plastic drinking bottles). Do
some research and see if you are exposing yourself to estrogen. This
will cause hairloss. If you get less exposure to estrogen, your hair will
probably grow back.

Is it better to go to a barber shop or a hair stylist place to get your hair done?
What's the difference, for guys at least?
enlace
[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 4 puntos 2 meses atrás
It is better to go to a barber, or a stylist that specializes in men's hair
cutting.
Cutting women's hair is very different than men's. With men's hair the cut is
usually short. This means that the stylist has to get the hair cut almost
perfect, or it will really show. This takes a lot of practice and ongoing
education.
Many stylists that do womens hair are very very bad at men's haircuts. They
will also have fewer ideas on hairstyles and may not understand how to
properly educate male clients.

thoughts on that?
enlace
[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 3 puntos 2 meses atrás
Thanks for asking this. People are really confused about this.
You should only wash your hair about once a week. Many people have oily
hair because they wash it every day. This removes all of the natural oils and
forces the scalp to overcompensate by constantly producing oil (sebum).
I wash my hair every 7 days. If you do this, your scalp will eventually
become far less oily.
Washing your hair every day can also dry the scalp, causing flakes. Then
people wash their hair more because it's "flaky", causing more flakes. It's a
never ending cycle. Just don't shampoo your hair so much.
You can run them hot water over your hair in the shower, and scrub with
your hands. Although, I personally don't even wet my hair between washing
(to avoid blow drying).
Side note: dandruff is an extremely rare condition. I have only seen it a few
times. It is something you should go to the doctor for. Head and Shoulders
is very bad for your scalp if you don't have dandruff (trust me, you don't).
Do not use dandruff shampoo unless your doctor tells you to.

my hair about once every 2-3 months. I've gotten the 'dry shampoo', but
I haven't used it much (my daughter decided to play with it and use it all
up). What do you suggest?

what I want? I should I just bring a picture of my previous haircuts and say,
'that, please' ? I find it takes me a while to find someone I'm comfortable with
and be able to explain what I want. I'm not adventurous when it comes to
haircuts, I want the same thing every time.

I have extremely straight, extremely fine hair. The only hair styles that have
worked are buzzed evenly or require a massive amount of gel to keep it from
sticking straight up. Suggestions on something different?

You could wear it like David Beckham does here. The other pics on that page
are good to.
Blow dry your hair, or at least towel it really dry. Use some light cream
pomade to push it back. You should wear it loser than he is, less "slicked".

Is there any certain style for a guy who has a massive jew-fro? My boyfriend's
hair grows to be really big and he hates when its really short. There is only one
product he uses (Garnier leave in conditioner cream), and I wish he would find
something else that helps with the frizz.

Really short hair is the answer. Get him some creamy pomade.

I have extremely thick, curly hair. You can't even run fingers through it. My
friends hate me for it (they are balding) but I can't do a thing with my hair...
Everything looks like an afro! What do I do?

Have your barber/stylist thin it. Get a strong pomade.

So I have super thick hair, as in every barber I have ever been to says I have
crazy volume, and my female friends say they wish they had my hair cause of
all that volume. Problem is, for a guy this is pretty annoying, what product
should I use to get rid of that much volume?

Hey! I am 16 and have an awkward gray patch and more gray hair coming in
(well actually white, but anyways) It tends to get a lot of "DID YOU KNOW YOU
HAVE WHITE HAIR?" so I am thinking that I might have to dye it....but I was
wondering how often I would have to get it dyed so no root is showing because
that would be even worse. Also Opinion on undercut?

do a grey camouflage. It only takes 10 minutes and it fades away over the
weeks, so no roots. Reapply once a month.

I just looked at it, seems amazing, but I think it said I have to go to a
salon for it (not really sure). If it does require a salon is there one you
would recommend in boston? Also thanks for doing this :)

impermalinkparentreportreplyits on the west coast. Google men's hair
camouflage Boston.
Also, at the drug store they have some. I think it's called just for men.
This stuff might not work good, or be good for your hair. I've never
used it. Look around the net to see if there are any user reviews.

just a last question. It's really weird but the white hair is in a
patch....would you recommend dying my whole head of hair
or just the patch. (also a little scattered around but barely
noticeable)

How are you doing financially, if you don't mind?
My dad thinks this is a cop out. Unfortunately its something I've wanted to do
since I was around 11 years old. What can I say to maybe change his mind?

I am 27 and I have thick black hair. My girlfriend tells me it makes my head
look big when I let it grow a bit. I usually keep it about 2 inches long on top
and then tapered on the sides. I never know what to tell the barber when I go
in there. What should I tell them to insure a cut that I like?
enlace
[–] I_Am_Delilah [S] 1 punto 2 meses atrás
I would say: 2" on top, taper the sides. Ifmthey screw it up from there, then
theremismsomethingnwrong with them, and you'll want to find a new stylist.
Good luck!

I started growing my hair long, I have a few split ends and I don't want to cut
them.
What do you think about singeing split ends?
I've been growing my hair since almost a year for the first time in my
life, my hair is around 2a/2b I think, not thin but not too thick. I have
lots of volume. How do I remove all that volume? I've heard about
getting a layered haircut. I'm a total newbie with long hair care. I do
use conditioner though!

A few split ends are fine. Everyone with long hair has then. No big deal. Get
some product that is made to sleek your hair. There is spray shine, or dry
oil. These will smooth your hair and make it shiny and even hide the split
ends.
Talk to your stylist about the layers. I don't know if your a boy or girl, but
boys should be careful with layers because it can look like a mullet.
Don't wash your hair everyday any more. It may seem greasy at first if
you've been washing your hair everyday, because your scalp is
overcompensating for all the shampoo removing your natural oils. Just wash
your hair every few days or once a week. Anytime you wash your hair,
condition it. On the days you don't wash it, brush it extra, to get the oils
from your scalp down to the ends of your hair.
Let me know,of you have any other questions.
Good luck!

my hair is really thin and slowly balding. All stylists and whatnot seem to know
that one magical pill / cream / product that will make my hair stop falling /
regrow.
Nothing ever seems to work.
Is there any product that actually delivers on its promise?

Not really. You can't change your DNA. you can try shampoos, pills, high
frequency, healthy diet, sunscreen. All of this may help, but once hair is
dead, it's dead.
