ATHERVASHEERSHA Verse No 9

(Lecture No, by Shri. Prasad Deole on 3rd Sept 2018)

Until now, the mantras revealed the formless and attribute less nature of
Ganapati as Nirguna, Nirakara swarup .God has different rups or anek rup and
one swarup and in this verse it will be seen as to how the Rupa darshan will be
described and how the Beej Mantra is formed. Different mantras have different
beeja mantras in which there is a beeja akshara within the mantra. Beja is a seed
of a plant, so also the beeja mantra is the seed of the whole mantra and the beeja
akshara is the seed of the beeja mantra.
Thus, even if one who is not conversant with the Atarvasheersha, it would be
sufficient if one can chant the beej mantra or at least the Beeja akshar which
will be beget the blessings of the entire fruit of labour equivalent to chanting of
the complete mantra. The Beeja akshara of Atharva sheersha is “Gam”. In
Sanskrit the syllables emerge as sounds from the parts of the mouth such as
Guttarals, Pallatals, Lingual, Labials, and Dentals.
The 9th slokha is the description of the Beej Mantra and Beej Akshara of Lord
Ganapati and the formation of the Beeja Mantra with the right Swar, Anuswar,
Vyanja, Metre . Suppose if the Beeja mantra is chanted correctly and
repeatedly for a certain prescribed number of times then the power in the mantra
is such that it is possible for that person to see the appearance of the God’s form
as desired by him.
Lord Shiva who is painted as blue in pictures is actually white. The Rishi, Seer
has seen the Lord in the Pashyathi Vani and has conceptualised the form of God
and vividly described it and based that description pictures have been drawn
painted and authenticity established.
The 9th verse describes how the Beej Mantra came into existence, the Beej
Akshara “Gam” consists of 3 syllables “Ga”, “Ah” and “Ma”.
Among all the swar, anuswar and vyanjana “Om” is the only the syllable in
which the tongue does not touch any part of the mouth hence it is powerful. The
Beeja mantras are mono syllable seed sounds that activate the energies of the
body chakras and purify mind and body. When “Gam” is chanted there is a lot
of vibrations taking place within our body and outside in the atmosphere due to
which a form is gets created first in the mind and then outside. Thus, every
syllable is capable of producing a form, so one has to be cautious and chant it
properly. “Gam” is the beejakshara and “Om Gan Ganpathaye Namah” is
the Beej mantra. It has been said that for those who do Japa and Chanting of the
Beeja Mantras and want to make it powerful, it is prescribed that one starts with
Gayatri mantra first and then the Beeja Mantra because Gayatri is the most
powerful Mantra which protects all other mantras.
The picture of gods worshipped at homes like those of Vishnu, Shiva, Ganapati
etc. should be as per the correctness as described by rishis from the Vedic
scriptures and not distorted forms.

These are forms actually seen by the seers and described in the Vedas and not
out of an imagination of the Rishi. The form of Gayathri was actually seen and
described by the Sage Vishwamitra. The persons having clairvoyant powers are
able to see the aura emitting from an individual’s body and the colour of the
aura. Beeja mantra is the seed when chanted upon has the powers to deliver
phala or fruit of the mantra. If the seed mantra of Ganapati is sown, one
achieves the fruits of mantra which are in the form of ridhi, sidhi etc.

The mantra is chanted as “Om….. Gam Ganapathaye namah” in two

breaths because there is a gap after Om...which as per Mandukya Upanishad
signifies the state of Waking, Dream, Deep sleep and the silence is the Turiya
state. “Om” has four parts and each representing the state of consciousness,
A...U...M and Silence. If one does Brahmavichar on the silence state of Turiya,
then it is possible for one to go into Turiya state one day in the waking state
itself.

This chanting is called as Ganesha Vidya and the seer of the Ganpati
Athervasheersha is the Ganaka and Beeja Mantra was seen by Ganaka. The
metre is Nishcruth Gayathri and the devata of the gayatri is Ganpathi.
