The famous Tsukiji fish market, which has been operating for 80 years in central
Tokyo, closed on Saturday to move to Toyosu, a former gas factory.

After years of postponement, the Tsukiji market, which received around 40,000
visitors a day, triggered great discontent, in most cases due to the closure of a
space that is considered one of the icons of the city.

"If the new location were better, it would not have any problem to change," said
Tai Yamaguchi, 75, who opposes the move, and said he was poorly managed by
the authorities because the people directly affected were not properly heard.

Tsukiji's future is about to be decided. For now, the 230,000 square meters of
land will be transformed into a gigantic parking lot for the Tokyo Olympics in
2020.
Amusement park, casino, shopping center, among others, are some of the ideas
for the site

To the Tokyo municipal administration's argument about the need for a more
modern and efficient space, workers counter that Tsukiji is a work of art in
constant transformation over the years.

Temperatures are finally dropping, with temperatures between 20-28 degrees
