2010 Continuing Education Programme for
Dealers & Remisiers (CEPDR)

Introduction

This SGX-accredited programme offers Trading Representatives a wide array of relevant and practical short courses.
Through continuing education, we aim to raise the level of professionalism and competency, while improving the business
of dealers and remisiers.

Each course is 3 hours and its delivery is through the conventional classroom or seminar mode at Capital Tower
(Robinson Road), SGX Centre (Shenton Way) or a convenient location within or near the Central Business District. The course
schedule and course synopsis are detailed in the following pages.

The tentative dates for each course are pre-assigned for the convenience of Trading Representatives.The course lecturers’
bio-data are also provided for your reference. The dates and lecturers are subject to changes. Registered participants will be
informed of any changes in venue/date at least 10 business days before the commencement of the course, where possible.

SGX-Training Credits

All participants have to sign in before the commencement of the course, and participants who are more than 10 minutes late
will not be allowed to mark their attendance, and no credits would be awarded. In addition, participants also need to sign out
after the completion of the 3-hour programme.

SGX requirements on minimum training credits per calendar year, punctuality, signing of attendance register, attendance, attire,
and other rules will be strictly adhered to.

Course Registration

The enrolment form is enclosed in this catalogue, and is also available from the administration departments of all SGX-Securities
Trading Member Companies. Please enrol through your respective administration departments.

Applications should reach our Education Centre at least 10 business days before the commencement of the applied courses.
The fee is S$100 per course (no GST) unless otherwise specified. Corporate Discounts are available. For changes, refunds or
cancellations, terms and conditions in the enrolment form apply.

Advanced Technical Analysis and Trading
(all courses in this module are at Intermediate Level.
Requires participants to have some knowledge about basic charting and investing)

C1: Trading for a Living [Dr. Alexander Elder - Full Day Workshop on 14 Mar 10]

Conference fees at $468, inclusive of lunch and training materials, subject to available seats. Early bird fee of $388 for
registrations by 31 January 2010.

Dr Elder will provide an overview of the 3 Ms of trading – Mind, Method and Money. Specifically, participants will learn:

• How to become a cool, calm, and collected trader


• How to profit from reading the behavior of the market crowd

C2: Trading Modern Market Conditions [Daryl Guppy - 17 Jul 10]

Market behaviour has changed in 2008 and 2009. Traders must use new methods to identify trend changes and manage
trades successfully. Learn how to recognise the market behaviour which develops into a trend change and trend weakness.
Identify reliable advance market patterns that show a sustainable market recovery. Identify market behaviour patterns that
give reliable advance warning of a change in the uptrend. Learn how to correctly use RSI divergence and other indicators
to identify trend changes and manage trades. Learn to use the sliding ATR and the count back line to manage trades. These
methods will also be applied to the current market, the commodity market situation and the market outlook.

Bio Data of Speakers

Dr. Alexander Elder, M.D.

Alexander Elder, M.D., is a professional trader, based in New York City. He is the author of Trading for a Living and the
Study Guide for Trading for a Living, considered modern classics among traders. First published in 1993, these interna-
tional best-sellers have been translated into Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese,
Polish, Russian, and Spanish. His Come into My Trading Room was named a 2002 Barron’s Book of the Year. He also
wrote Rubles to Dollars: Making Money on Russia’s Exploding Financial Frontier, Straying from the Flock: Travels in
New Zealand, Entries & Exits: Visits to 16 Trading Rooms and Sell and Sell Short.

Dr. Elder was born in Leningrad and grew up in Estonia, where he entered medical school at the age of 16. At 23, while
working as a ship’s doctor, he jumped a Soviet ship in Africa and received political asylum in the United States. He
worked as a psychiatrist in New York City and taught at Columbia University. His experience as a psychiatrist provided
him with unique insight into the psychology of trading.

Mr. Daryl Guppy

Mr. Daryl Guppy is founder and Director of Guppytraders.com Pty Ltd. Guppytraders.com is an international financial
market education and training organization with offices in Darwin, Singapore and Beijing. Guppy is a regular CNBCAsia
Squawk Box technical analyst commentator often known as “the chart man”. He is recognized globally for the quality of
his analysis and has a weekly CNBC.com column – Charting Asia. He actively trades equities and associated deriva-
tives markets, including CFDs. He is the author of The 36 Strategies of the Chinese for Financial Traders, Trend Trading
and seven other trading books. Several books are also available in Chinese. He has developed several leading techni-
cal indicators used by traders in stock, derivative and currency markets. His indicators are included in MetaStock,
OmniTrader, Guppy Traders Essentials and other charting programs. Guppy is a regular contributor for financial
magazines and media in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Australia and the US. He oversees the production of weekly
analysis and trading newsletters for the Singapore/ Malaysia market, India and Australian markets. He recognized as a
leading expert on China markets. He is in demand as a speaker in Asia, China, Europe and Australia. Guppytraders has
offices in Singapore, Beijing and Darwin.

Mr. Roy Ling

Mr Roy Ling is currently the Managing Director of RL Capital Management, a rapidly expanding boutique hedge fund
focused on Asia. Prior to working for RL Capital, Roy was a Vice President with JPMorgan’s Asia real estate investment
banking team base out of Singapore. He is responsible for the origination and execution of investment banking
mandates for regional clients. Prior to working for JPMorgan, Roy worked for Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs and
Salomon Smith Barney, undertaking a diverse range of corporate finance, equity research and real estate financings.

Roy is a Chartered Financial Analyst and was formerly on the Board of Directors of the CFA Society of Japan and was
also the Chairman of the Society’s Public Awareness Committee. He also served on the PR & Events Committee of the
Asian Public Real Estate Association. Roy was honored as one of 20 Rising Stars in Real Estate by Institutional Investor
in March 2008, and also on the judging panels of the International Property Award, Cityscape Asia Awards and the
Singapore Property Awards.

Ms. Pang Li Kin

Ms. Pang Li Kin is the principal trainer at Potenxia Unlimited – she has 25 years of corporate experience where she developed
her expertise in marketing research, business development & client servicing, as well as in leadership, people management,
training & development. Prior to founding Potenxia Unlimited, Li Kin held executive and senior management positions with
established companies like The Straits Times, F&N (S) Pte Ltd, and ACNielsen. In her last role, she was Executive Director
responsible for developing the International Research and Customer Satisfaction Management business globally.

Li Kin holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) degree (University of Singapore) and a Masters of Social Planning &
Development (University of Queensland). She is also a certified image consultant by the Association of Image Consultants
International and a certified administrator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).

Mr. Seow Hock Hin

Mr. Seow Hock Hin is Senior Vice President, Head of Wholesale Business and Equity Derivatives, MF Global Singapore Pte.
Limited. Prior to that has was Senior Vice President, Head of Institutional Sales, Refco (S) Pte Ltd and a Financial Advisor with
Prudential Bache Futures Asia Pacific Ltd Singapore.

Mr Seow has a Chartered Financial Analyst qualification from the CFA Institute, USA and holds a Master of Applied Finance,
Macquarie University, Australia.

Dr. Tan Kee Wee

Dr. Tan Kee Wee is the Principal Partner of Ashlee Mae – a newly-setup firm which provides economics and investment advisory
services. Before striking out on his own, Dr Tan was part of the organizing team for the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings held in
September 2006 in Singapore. Prior to that, he was the Director of Research & Corporate Communications Division at the
Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation (SMa). Before that, he spent many years in the finance industry as an economist,
forecasting the trends of bonds, stocks, interest rates, and the global economies. He has worked with Standard Chartered Bank,
OCBC Asset Management, and United Overseas Bank.

Before joining the financial sector in the early 1990s as an economist, Dr Tan Kee Wee started off his career as a journalist with
the daily financial newspaper “Business Times”. He had then just secured his PhD in Economics from the University of East
Anglia, UK. Despite spending most of his career in the private sector, he has kept in touch with the university. In 1999, he was
appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Economics at the National University of Singapore for a 2-year term.

Ms. Teo Ser Lee

Ms. Teo Ser Lee is the Founder and Director of Protocol Academy Pte Ltd, Singapore’s pioneer in etiquette and protocol
services. Ms Teo is trained and certified by The Protocol School of Washington where she specializes in Corporate Etiquette &
International Protocol. She is also a qualified Colour & Make-up Artist, Personal Stylist and Image Consultant as well as an
associate of APICSA (Association of Professional Image Consultants of South Africa).

Ms Teo has a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from National University of Singapore and started her career as an external
auditor with the then Ernst & Whinney. She has more than 12 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, specializing in
marketing and corporate communications. She has held management position with Singapore Airlines, providing services to high
valued customers and was also General Manager, Corporate Communications for Samsung Electronics, handling media
relations, publicity and promotions for all the company’s products.

Mr. Gregory Vijayendran

Mr. Gregory Vijayendran is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group of Rajah & Tann. He has a broad area of
practice in civil and commercial litigation, encompassing professional negligence, banking, company and shareholder disputes,
corporate insolvency and other tort claims.

He regularly gives conferences, talks and seminars to a variety of public and private institutions including government depart-
ments, the Law Society and commercial service providers. He was also Summer School Faculty in 2008 with Handong Interna-
tional Law University in South Korea teaching a course on International Business Transactions in Singapore. He is presently
serving on the Board of the Insolvency Practitioners’ Association

Mr. Tolmas Wong

Mr.Tolmas Wong is currently a Senior Vice President with the Private Clients Services team in CIMB-GK Securities. The team
provides research-based advisory services on the regional equity markets & other financial products to corporate, trusts & HNI
clients. He was previously a fund manager with UOB and senior institutional salesperson with Citicorp Vickers and Schroder
Securities.

He graduated with a BBA from the National University of Singapore and MAppFin from Macquarie University, Australia. He is a
CFA charterholder since 1993, and holds the CFP and ChFP qualifications since 2003.

Mr. Benjamin Yeo Kay Chee, CFA

Benjamin is a seasoned, 20-year career investment professional who began his career in 1990 with the Government of
Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), where has held various positions including Global Sector Chief Investment Officer,
Global Portfolio Manager and Head of the Global Consumer Discretionary Research Group.

Subsequently, Benjamin was involved in the research and investment management of a pan-Asian, long-short hedge fund for
approximately 2 years. He later moved on to be the Executive Director and Head of UBS Wealth Management Research Asia,
where for close to 3 years he led a team of analysts generating and researching investment ideas for Asian economics, equity,
corporate bonds, fixed income and investment funds.

His last appointment was with Unity Capital Singapore (Pte) Limited where he was Managing Director, Head of portfolio manage-
ment for an Asian start-up involved in a broad range of investment products, ranging from private equity, hedge funds, sector and
Asian dedicated funds. Together with a team of portfolio managers and analysts, he was spearheading various new investment
mandates from early 2009 onwards.

Benjamin graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration Honours degree from the National University of Singapore in
1990. In 1994, he was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst charter (CFA).

Terms & Conditions


1. Enrolment forms, submitted through your respective SGX-ST Member Company’s administrative departments, should reach
us at least 10 business days before commencement.

2. All fees must be paid before the commencement of the course. Fees are inclusive of presentation notes and refreshments,
which will be provided during the course. Cheques should be crossed and made payable to “The Society of Remisiers, Singapore”.

3. An official receipt will be issued after receiving full payment and the completed enrolment form. A confirmation letter detailing the
course details will be sent to participants at least 1 week prior to commencement of the course. The dates/lecturers indicated are
subject to change. If participants wish to make any changes to their applications or request for refund, written notice should be given
10 business days before the commencement of the course. There will be an administrative fee of 20% of the fees paid. There will be
no changes or refunds if notice is give less than 10 business days before the start of the programme.

4. The Society of Remisiers, Singapore reserves the right to cancel courses due to unforeseen circumstances, and make a full refund
of fees paid by each participant.

5. This continuing education programme is subjected to the existing Singapore Exchange (SGX) requirements on minimum training
credits, punctuality, signing of attendance register, attendance, attire and other rules or regulations prescribed by the SGX.
