What is ISA?
• The ISA assessment program is designed
specifically for students in international schools in
Grades 3-10.

• It is designed to assess Mathematical Literacy,

Scientific Literacy, Reading.

Test Sessions Test Sessions

• Schools will need to set aside two (2) mornings for
the Mathematical Literacy, and Reading
assessments during the set administration dates.
• For schools administering Scientific Literacy,
additional morning(s) is/are required.
• Students should be allowed enough time to
complete all the questions that they are able to do.
• At the end of each test session, teachers are
advised to allow extra 5-10 minutes to any students
who are still working profitably.

Administering the Test Preparing for Paper Testing

• The Day 1 assessments are printed in a different
orientation from the Day 2 assessments, and both
begin at opposite ends of the booklet. Do NOT
allow students to flip the booklet and glance at its
opposite side.

• Each test administrator / proctor will receive a

• If necessary, reorganize seating to ensure that
each student works independently.
• Ensure that all students have the necessary
materials in taking the test before allowing them to
start.
• Note that a mathematical formula sheet is
included in every Grade 8, 9 and 10 student
booklet.

(Assistance to Students)
• All Tests: If students are uncertain about how to
show their answers, the teacher may explain this at
any time during the test.
• All Tests: Do not give students the answer to a
test question, the meaning of a mathematical term,
the spelling of words, or hints about how to
approach a question or about what an answer
might be.
Make-Up Testing
• Students who are absent for any part of the
assessment can be granted make-up time if the
school is able to replicate assessment conditions –
with staff member to administer and supervise
assessment – at another time.

Administering the Test
(Assistance to Students)
• Mathematical Literacy: Teachers may read test
questions to students who are unable to do so
themselves.
• Reading: Teachers are NOT permitted to read
questions to students. As it is a test of reading, it is
inappropriate to read aloud material from the
student handbook (apart from practice questions
and instructions).
Finishing the Test
• Proctors must ensure that all booklets are
collected after DAY 1 and DAY 2 of the testing
period.
• Booklets, Feedback Forms and Testing Report
Forms must all be submitted back to Ms. Vicky’s
office after the test.
