Whole Class discussion:
100 points per quarter
4 =A (95%)
• Well prepared and
knowledgeable about course
readings and topics
• Contributes readily but does
not dominate discussion
• Makes thoughtful contributions
that advance discussion
• Supports ideas with reasons
and examples from the text
• Offers observations that
challenge others to think
about material in new ways
• Shows interest and respect for
other view points
Group work:
50 points per quarter
4 = A (95%)
• Actively participates in
discussion & activities
• Leads the group and
encourages others to
participate
• Does not dominate discussion
Points will be subtracted from your class participation grade if you are not working silently during work time. When you finish your assignment, you are expected to read or work on
homework for another class.
3 = B (85%)
• Prepared and generally
knowledgeable about course
readings and topics
• Offers sporadic contributions
during discussion without
prompting
• While ideas are less
developed, they still advance
conversation
• Attempts to support ideas with
reasons and examples from the
text
• Shows interest and respect for
other view points
3 = B (85%)
• Actively participates in
discussion & activities
• Contributes in a fair and just
manner
2 = C (75%)
• Prepared and somewhat
knowledgeable about course
readings and topics
• Does not voluntarily participate

however, when called on
responses are accurate but
