3.1 - GENERALS

The AS 332 fuselage is of monocoque design with stressed Cowlings cover the upper part of the aircraft. Fairings

MAIN STRUCTURE
The main structure consist of : Upper structure

( 1 ) Jacking Points

Frame 2480 is equipped with a fitting onto which a jacking


adapter (1) can be mounted to constitute the forward jack-
ing point (FWD).
Two jacking adapters (2) are screwed onto two fittings on
frame 6815 for the two aft jacking points (LH and RH).

( 2 ) Alignment References ( 3 ) Leveling

These points are marked by 2 mm diameter holes drilled The aircraft datum planes for leveling are :

HOISTING

When the aircraft is stripped to its empty weight


and the main rotor blades are removed, a suitable
sling may be attached to the main rotor head for
hoisting purposes.
Ballast weights are required in different positions
(according to options ) to maintain the longitudinal
attitude.
Two ropes are used to guide the aircraft during
hoisting maneuvers.

The engine cowlings are hinged on the structure for

3.2.3. COWLINGS (Cont'd)

( 3 ) Air Intake Stub Frame

This streamlined bulkhead is made of nomex and com-


posite material. Both engine air intakes are fitted with
standard screens, and may be equipped with optional
multipurpose ice and sand filter intakes.

The lower portion of the stub frame is internally parti-


tioned to ventilate the engine bays through lateral air
inlets, with a central air scoop for cargo bay heating and
ventilation.

The stub frame slides-forward on rails after opening three

3.2.4. TAIL STRUCTURE

The tail structure supports the anti-torque rotor drive com-


ponents and related items (rotor control linkage, hydrau-
lic and electrical lines).
Support fittings are provided on the skin panels for ra-
dio-navigation antennas, to secure blade folding poles
and to accomodate the tail rotor access ladder.

3.3 - DOORS

3.3.1. PILOT’S AND COPILOT’S DOORS


The doors are built from a welded light alloy framework. The up-
per portion comprises a fixed transparent panel (12) and a sliding
panel (4) with a catch (5). The lower portion includes a transpar-
ent panel (6) and a light alloy panel (11) equipped with a docu-
ment case (10).
The doors also include :

• a locking mechanism with four lockbolts (2) operated by han-


dles (3).
• a safety lock (9) controlled by handle (7)
• a mechanical locking indicator (1)
• a compressed air retaining rod (8).

A jettison mechanism actuated by lever (16), secured by

3.3.2. SLIDING LATERAL PLUG DOORS (Cont'd)

( 1 ) Door Operation
The door is equipped with four locking pins (1) actu-
ated by handles from inside (3) and outside. The
catches (2) are mounted on the door frame. The de-
sign of the locking mechanism and the shape of the
pins allow the doors to be closed under light pressure.

3.3.2. SLIDING LATERAL PLUG DOORS (Cont'd)

( 2 ) Jettisoning the Doors

The doors can be jettisoned from two points on the air-


craft :

• an actuating handle (2) is located next to each door


inside the cabin.
• another jettison handle (3) is provided outside the
aircraft.
They are protected by breakable transparent covers.

As optional two other handles (1) can be provided be-


hind pilot's and copilot's seats on the cockpit bulkhead.

3.3.3. AFT STAIRWAY DOOR

The aft stairway door located beneath the intermediate Door closed & locked
structure provides access from the rear to the stowage
areas and cabin.

The aft stairway door includes three steps. It is hinged


from the airframe by two fittings (1) and held closed by Door
two opposite-handed latches (4) actuated by an exterior
handle (7) in normal operation or, in an emergency, by
an interior handle (6) protected by a transparent break- Latch
able cover.

The lower step (2) is removable to allow access to the


closing mechanism.

A bumper pad (3) cushions the impact of the door on the


ground.

NOTE : Hold the door when opening it to prevent dam-


age if it strikes the ground.
