1. Structural Description

The proposed building is a Ground + 16 upper stories structure. The proposed building is for
Residential purpose with 8th Floor being the Refuge area.

The structure will primarily be a reinforced concrete structure. The foundations will be
isolated or combined open footings.

Infill walls shall be constructed using light weight AAC blocks for the entire building. Brick
masonry may be used only in the plinth if required.

The maximum plan dimensions of the building are approximately 26.41m x 15.45m. The
typical floor height is 3.0m.

vi) Topography factor (k3) 1.0 (Flat terrain has been assumed)
The design wind pressure will be calculated at different heights based on the above listed
parameters.

3.4 Seismic Load Parameters

i) Seismic Zone III

ii) Soil Type Medium Soil (Type II)
iii) Importance factor 1.00
iv) Response reduction factor 5.0

 Special Moment Resistant Frame (SMRF) has been considered and the design and
detailing provisions are based on IS: 13920.
 Seismic weight (Lump Mass) used for analysis is 1.0DL + 0.25 LL
 Response spectra method with IS code spectrum corresponding to 5% damping value is
used for analysis.
 Base shear calculated from response spectra method is compared to the static base shear
obtained as per IS 1893 codal provisions. If the base shear obtained from response spectra
analysis is less than that obtained from static procedure, the response spectra base shear is
scaled up to match that obtained from static procedure.

5. Serviceability & Durability Criteria Adopted

5.1 Clear Cover to Reinforcement in Concrete Members

The clear cover has been taken based on Moderate exposure considerations as per IS:456.

Clear Cover to Column links 40 mm

Clear Cover to Beam stirrups 30 mm
Clear Cover to Slab reinforcement 25 mm
Clear Cover to Footing reinforcement 50 mm at bottom (with PCC at bottom)
75mm on top & sides

The above considered clear cover is also sufficient for 1.5hr to 2 hr fire resistance.

5.2 Deflection Criteria

Allowable lateral deflection of building under Building Height/500 (IS:456, 2000, Cl

wind loads 20.5)

Allowable story drift of building under 0.004 x storey height (IS:1893 Part1:
seismic loads 2002, Cl 7.11.1)

Allowable vertical deflection of beams under should not exceed span/350

serviceability load combinations or 20 mm whichever is less
