It will be noted that the Person, as the spiritual essence of our nature, is universally symbolized
by the archetype of the Tree in archaic religious mythology. This is true for the Book of Genesis in the
Bible which speaks of the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil1, the Quran
which speaks of the Tree of Zaqqum2, the Bhagavad Gita and the Fig Tree3, the Norse Ygdrassil4, the
Mayan Yax Imix Che, the Egyptian Ished, or the Jian Mu of the Chinese.
The Tree is the archetype of the human Person, the spiritual essence which is symbolized with
the archetype of the plant, the vegetable life-form.
