Quality of supplies and installation requirements
(see installation plans and drawings)

In order to ensure the sterilizer functions correctly, it is important to take into account all the details
concerning supplies set out in the points below:

Water
The water quality may vary, depending on whether or not the sterilizer is equipped with its own
steam generator. The water quality for the vacuum system is less critical than the one used for
steam production.

(1) Water for vacuum system and cooling

The water temperature for the vacuum system has to be as cold as possible (the recommended
temperature is below 15 ºC). The water will have to be adapted only to avoid the corrosion, wear
and scaling on the pump, heat exchanger, the ejector, water tank, etc. MATACHANA recommends
that the water should be provided soft with a hardness between 1 and 5 °d, a pH between 7-9 and
with a level of dissolved chlorides between 0,7-2,0 mmol/L.

Remark: In water temperatures > 15°C (up to max. 22°C), the consumption of demineralized water
is increased, as well as the times of the process. This can cause erroneous information (vacuum
time, drying pressure, etc.), particularly with extreme heavy loads. A higher graduation of hardness
results in a higher level of mineral salts sediments in the cooling circuits and in the pumps

(2) (Sterilizers E) Water to generator

The quality of the water should be adequate for ensuring that the steam produced is suitable for
sterilization purposes. We therefore recommend the water be treated, that it has a hardness lower
than 0,02 mmol/l and pH between 5 and 7,5 and level of dissolved chlorides less than or equal to
2 mg/l. Non-condensable gases level should be the lowest possible.

Table 1: Maximum recommended quantity allowed of contamination in the condensates and in

the water that feeds the corresponding steam generator according to European Standard
EN 285.

Hardness ≤ 0,02 mmol/l ≤ 0,02 mmol/l
Appearance Colourless, clear, without sediments Colourless, clear, without sediments

NOTE: to guarantee a correct quality of water, we recommend to install a water treatment device
adapted for the sterilizer. According to the EN 285 European Standard, the level of non condensable
gases in the water supply must not exceed the 3.5 Vol % to be able to assure a correct level of
sterilization.

generating quality steam, according to the requirements of European Standard EN 285.

As in the electrical steam generator, the quality of the water supply power has to be according to
Table 1 (See steam generator water feed).

The electrical power of the devices that incorporate this option is equal to a machine supplied by
steam network (V Version)

For its operation, the device needs to be equipped with a return line for condensates.

Option available only for models: 1008, 1010 and 1012.

Option for the external connection to water recovery / cooling system

The sterilizer can be connected to an external system of water recovery / cooling (supplied
at a temperature of 6 °C). The system allows to cool the water of the vacuum system tank for
optimization of the water consumption.
We detail the values of water flow and calorific power so that the system of refrigeration can be
calculated according to the model of sterilizer.

Model Nominal value (ΔT=5K) Maximum value in 2 min.

1004 1,2 m3/h 42 kW
1006 1,7 m3/h 58 kW
1008 2,3 m3/h 80 kW
1010 2,8 m3/h 100 kW
1012 3,4 m3/h 120 kW

NOTE: As a feature, the coolers have a by-pass incorporated. Should this not be the case, this can
be added as an option in the sterilizer, requesting it with the corresponding code.

(3) Compressed air (pneumatic system)

The compressed air does not affect the sterilization process as such. It should be adequate to
ensure the proper operation of the door cylinders and automatic pneumatic devices (valves,
safety devices, etc.).

The air supply should be dry, filtered at 25 µm,and regulated at a pressure of between 6 and 7
bar. The sterilizer, as standard feature, has a maintenance unit provided with filter decanter with
automatic purge and regulators of pressure for the pneumatic manoeuvre, as well as for the air
supply to gaskets (door joint).

NOTE:
The minimal flow to guarantee the closing of the automatic purge of the air regulatory filter must
be of 150 litres / minute at 1,5 bar.

Optionally, the sterilizer can be equipped with an integrated compressor, so that an external supply
of compressed air is not necessary.

(4) Drain
A siphon trap should be provided with a rust-resistant outlet tube, capable of withstanding a
temperature of 100 ºC, to evacuate water from the vacuum and condensate cooling system.
It is located on the floor at the point indicated in the installation plan.
The connection of the siphon trap with the general drain network is done by a DN50 (2 " G)
pipe and under a working temperature of approx. 80 °C. Temporarily maximum temperatures
of 100 °C can be reached.

(5) Electric power point

Electric power point III x 400 V 3~ + earth (PE), frequency 50 Hz, appropriately protected by
means of a differential switch, and as stipulated in the local regulations on low voltage.

The sterilizer is prepared, as standard, for connection to a triphasic 400 V~/ 50 Hz mains
supply. However, the sterilizer can be prepared for other voltages and frequencies on
request.

Voltage 400 V 50 Hz (further voltages and/or frequencies upon request)

General requirements for electrical installation

The cable conductors should be chosen so they are adequate for the operating conditions
(e.g.voltage, intensity, protection against electric shocks, wire arrangements, etc.) and
external influences (room temperature, presence of water or corrosive substances,
mechanical stress, etc.) they will be exposed to.

(2) Network Steam ( V sterilizers and E sterilizers with by-pass system)

Successful sterilization depends, among other things, on the quality of the steam supplied
by the network. The steam supplied must be saturated, dry and free of impurities and non
condensable gases. According to the European Standard EN 285, the pressure supplied
needs to be between 2,7 and 3 bar. The steam quality should be as follows, when it is
measured in accordance with the methods described in the standard or others equivalent:

* Dryness: at least 0,9 (or 0,95 if the product to be sterilized is metal).

* Overheating: less than 25 ºC, measured in free steam at atmospheric pressure.
* Non condensable gases: the content must be less than 3,5% in volume.
* Pressure fluctuation: less than 10 %, before the pressure-reducing valve.
* The reducing ratio must not be greater than 2 to 1.

17
FT_S1000_12_01_00_en
S1000

It is not easy to obtain steam of sufficiently good quality, as it usually comes from a central
steam unit designed for other purposes (laundry, cooking, heating, etc.). To ensure good
steam quality, the fitters should therefore install the sterilizer as shown in diagram A

(7-8-9) Air extraction

In order to dissipate only the calories given off by the sterilizer, irrespective of any other
arrangements for dealing with heat in the working areas, air extraction systems should
be provided to dissipate this heat as shown in the installation diagram. It is extremely
important that the ambient temperature in the intermediate zone should be between 5 and
40 ºC and the relative humidity be less than 80%.

In order to ensure that such conditions are maintained in the sterilizer

Extraction Unloading zone (ZE)
area, we recommend that the extraction capacity and the diameter of the
extraction conduits required be calculated by a specialist firm and that this
firm should then install these items.

Very important:
Air system installation to be taken into account in the following points:
The air inlets and outlets in the intermediate zone should be fitted in opposite
corners, with the grilles near the floor and ceiling respectively.

Loading zone (ZNE)

Intermediate zone

18
FT_S1000_12_01_00_en
S1000
Allow a conduit section of 0.03 m2 for every 5 m2 to be ventilated. The grilles should measure
10x20 cm.

The ventilation distribution channels should be made of incombustible material.

If they are made of galvanised metal plate, they should be sufficiently protected against high
temperatures or be fitted with special partitioning systems to prevent fire spreading from one
level to another.

Where air distribution channels have to go through floors, walls or partitions, they should be
wrapped in fire-resistant material with leak-tight joints.

When the distribution channels pass through floors, partitioning walls or premises belonging
to different owners, they should be provided with their own automatic partitioning systems to
prevent fire spreading through them.

The above detailed diagram shows an example of bench with tubular structure and slopes
leading onto the siphonic drain. The tubular structure needs to be installed in order to
distribute the sterilizer's load on the ground when the resistance of the device on a specific
point is not sufficient. These calculation must be carried out by a qualified personnel.

Whenever this type of installation is not made possible, and that there is no option of a
bench leading to a drain, the installation can be done on floor, with a support of the tubular
structure when needed, and a projecting pipe for drain connection located in the same
point as the siphonic drain, as indicated in the installation drawings.

General remarks
- The installation up to the machine and provision of stopcocks as per specifications
indicated in the drawings are the responsibility of the owner.

- The various different connections should be installed in accordance with the different
regulations and standards currently in force.

-
Depending on the risk assessment of the installation on the definite location of the
sterilizer, the user will be responsible for taking care of discharge of the pipework from
the sterilizer’s safety valves via ducts into the drain. This way, it avoids that a possible
discharge of these valves can result in damage to the equipment or to the working
environment.

- It is recommended to count on an Ethernet outlet, as well as a monophasic voltage intake

for service purposes.

- If any problems occur while installing the different connections indicated in the plan, the
engineers or fitters concerned should notify the MATACHANA technical assistance service
so that it can advise on how to resolve the difficulties encountered as any unplanned
modifications could result in additional costs.

- The air extraction systems indicated are for the sole and exclusive purpose of dissipating
the heat generated by the machine, irrespective of any other arrangements for dealing
with heat in the area. The drive mechanism in the sterile or unloading zone should be
protected to prevent it from becoming contaminated.

- All the inlets connecting the supplies to the sterilizer, indicated in the drawings, will be
placed on a wall with the mains tap incorporated and easily accessible.

- If there is no false ceiling, the air extraction system, with the same power characteristics
as for false ceiling installations, should be fitted on the wall as far as the outside.

- The measurements in the diagrams refer to finished or tiled walls.

- Maintenance areas should be provided with adequate lighting.

- The average sound pressure of the Series S1000 sterilizers is lower than 76 dBA
according to the EN ISO 3743-1 Standard. It is recommended that the sound pressure
level is measured or calculated by a competent entity, once the device is installed (both
in the operator's position in normal use and in a position 1 meter from the device), since
the real value of the sound pressure will vary depending on the configuration of the final
installation of the equipment.

- Electromagnetic compatibility according to EN 61326-1 Standard, class A.

(1) Decalcified cold water inlet. Water used for the vacuum pump and in the cooling circuits.
(2) Water feeding for the steam generator, a water treatment equipment needs to be used with the following production requirements:

- Sterilizer S1004E-1/2 = 18 l/cycle. The generator requires 25 litres of water for its initial filling.
- Sterilizer S1006E-1/2 = 20 l/cycle. The generator requires 35 litres of water for its initial filling.
- Sterilizer S1008E-1/2 = 25 l/cycle. The generator requires 45 litres of water for its initial filling.
- Sterilizer S1010E-1/2 = 28 l/cycle. The generator requires 45 litres of water for its initial filling.
- Sterilizer S1012E-1/2 = 30 l/cycle. The generator requires 45 litres of water for its initial filling.

(3) Dry, saturated network steam supply, free of impurities, adequately filtered and regulated at a pressure between 2.5 and 3 bar.
(4) Air intake free of impurities for pneumatic system, adequately filtered and regulated at a pressure of 6/7 bar. Optionally, the sterilizer
can be equipped with an integrated compressor, so that an external supply of compressed air is not necessary.
(5) Siphon trap with the outlet tube indicated in the table, corrosion-resistance and capable of withstanding a temperature of 100 ºC.
(6) Air extraction system in the ceiling to dissipate the calories indicated directly to the outside.
(*) Water consumption is calculated on the basis of a fully loaded sterilizer.
