Ambedkar Chairs detail

Dr. Ambedkar Foundation is implementing the scheme of “Dr. Ambedkar Chair”
in different Universities and Institutions all over the country. This Scheme was
started in 1993 with the following main objectives:
i. To provide well-equipped Centers of learning to intellectuals, academicians
and students to undertake studies and research with an intention to
understand, assess and disseminate ideas and thoughts of Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar particularly on subjects/areas like Economics, Political Science,
Religion, Philosophy, Constitutional Studies, Education, Social Work,
Human Rights as well as other disciplines considered relevant for
attainment of our National Goal of Social Justice.
ii. To develop appropriate methodologies to translate Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas
into practical propositions and policy instruments.
iii. The Dr. Ambedkar Foundation sets up the Chair at different Universities
and Institutions all over the country to pay tribute and constructive homage
to the memory of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
iv. The specific areas of research and learning in the concerned disciplines will
be spelt out in the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed jointly by
Dr. Ambedkar Foundation and the concerned University/Institute.

So far, 21 Dr. Ambedkar Chairs have been instituted. A lump sum one time
grant of Rs. 2, 00, 0 00/- (Rupees Two Lakhs only) is given at the time of setting
up of the Chair for initial establishment and infrastructure. This grant of Rs. 2, 00,
0 00/- (Rupees Two Lakhs only) shall be utilized for procuring the necessary
equipments like computers, furniture, cupboard, FAX, books etc. An amount of Rs.
35, 00, 000/- Rupees Thirty Five Lakhs (Rs. 25, 00, 000/- for salaries + Rs. 10, 00,
000/- for activities) is given to each Chair annually as grant-in-aid to carry out its
various activities as enshrined under the Scheme as well as Memorandum of
Understanding. The Chair should be located in one of the departments/Centres or
Schools of the University/Institutions and shall be provided all the academic,
administrative and logistic support extended to other Professors of the
school/department.
