Mie Ductorat Gel oreppleaon for UOC grate or doctor theses 201772018 et 1 Call for Grant Applications for doctoral theses in Information and Knowledge Society Doctoral Programme, Network and Information Technologies Doctoral Programme and Education and ICT (e- learning) Doctoral Programme — 2018-2019 Resolution of November 28", 2017 whereby the Vice President for Strategic Planning and Research invites applications for UOC grants to undertake doctoral theses in the Information and Knowledge Society Doctoral Programme, Network and _Information Technologies Doctoral Programme, and Education and ICT (e- learning) Doctoral Programme within the framework of the Statute for Research Staff in Training. ‘Te Vice President fr Strategie Planning and Research, in exercising her authority in tems of the taining of researchers, hereby inves applications for UOC grants for doctoral theses in the Information and Knowledge Doctoral Progremme, Network and Information Technologies Doctoral Programme, and Educaton and ICT (edeaming) Dectoral Programme for research staf undertaking pre-doctora raining, within the framework of the Law 14/2011 of 1 of June 2011, for Science, Technology and Innovation and the Supporing Entepreneurs and their Intematinalzation approved by Law 14, of 27 September 2013. “This programme is funded by the Foundation of the Open University of Catalonia (Fu0C) 1. Alm of the call for applications Inorder to promot the traning of searchers in the diferent research groups atthe “Open University of Catalonia (UOC), the UOG is awarding 11 grants for doctoral thesis, inthe framework ofthe Information and Knowledge Society Doctorl Programme, the Network and Information Technologies Doctoral Programme, and te Education and ICT (e-learning) Doctoral Programme. The numberof places wil bedetermined by and ‘sibjectto the UOC's budget. “This call is made in accordance withthe criteria set forth by the UCC Research Grants: ‘Selection and Evaluation Commitee for doctoral theses, appointed by the University’s ‘Governing Counc 2. Programme structure f scala Doctoral Shoo 2 (eDoctorat_ Calor sppcetone fer UOC grat or dca tees 20172018 ‘The UOC grant programme for dacoral theses ie regulated sy Law 14/2013, of 27 September 2013, which approved the Supporing Entepreneurs and thei interationalzation, and Law 14/2011 of 1 June 2041, on Science, Technology and Innovation. In accordance with Atcle 21 of Law 14/2011, UOC grant holders wil sign a one-year ‘re-doctoral contract, which is enewable for three years. Renewal of ths contract Fequires a favourable repor from the programme's Doctoral Commission and the UOC Researey Grants Selection and Evaluation Committee, which assess the meeting of the trairing and research objectives agreed to by the grart holder in the period establsred Grant helders may opt to request an extension fora fourth yesr ofthe contract if they have satsfactoly defended thei doctoral tees before the and ofthe third year ofthe contract and have been awarded the highest academic mare. The extension for a fourth year ofthe contract wil depend on the budget avallable at the institution and requires @ favourable repor from the thesis director and the UOC Research Grants Selection and Evaluation Commitee. In tie case, the grant holder may spend this fourth year producing scientific work related to their doctoral thesis and wil sign & Postdetoral contract unl the end ofthe fourth year. In any case, a student's defence of thelr thesis before the end of their annual contract will not automaticaly terminate the contact nor, as a result, wil it represent the end of the related economic income. 3. Terms and Conditions of Grants ‘The grarts awarded are subsidiary to any other equivalent grans from public or private insitiions. Therefore, grant‘nolders wil be obliged to apply fr equivalent grants from those puale or private institutions deemed appropriate by the UOC. ‘The staus of research inter with an UOC grartis incompatible with any contractual or statutory commitments that may restict researchers’ ails to devote themselves fly to research. Nevertheless, the management of UOC and the decoral programme may consider requests to cary out teaching acivtes (giving courses, presentations, Speeches, etc), collaboration in R¥D#l work or contracted R+Dsl work that is drcty Felated to the traning and research undertaken by the researchintem, so long as these are occasional and not regular activites. These actives may not take up more than 60 hours per year. I the ressarch intern receives remuneration from any ofthe acities mentioned above, ‘this may not exceed 30% of the gross annual sum of the grant. It the tesching activity takes place atthe UOC, the research interns will not receive any adaitiona remuneration tothe amount paid by means ofthe grant “The maxmum duration of grants is four years and they must be renewed annually. This. ill depend on the evaluation made by the UOC Grants Selection and Evaluation Commitee ofthe objectives and results achieved by the recipient ofthe grant. If the intern cannot provide the documents before September 24°, 2018, they wil ose their right o grant ‘The research inter exeressly authorises the UOC to make whatever use it deems appropriate ofthe findings and reports submitted fo the grant application or to justify ‘he werk carried out (excapt ther publication) to undertake whatever proceedings may ‘be necessary withthe individuals or institutions that may be partly of fully funding the rant awarded However, in accordance with Law 14, of 27 September 2013, aprroving the Supporting Entrepreneurs and their Intemationalizaton, they may exercse the intellectual property Fights deriving from thelr own research taining activites, depending on thelr ‘contribution, at establehed in the revieed text of the intellectual Property Act, approved by Royal Legiative Decree 1/1906 of 12 Apr 1956 4.
