Safety Management System 29

POSCO’s Safety Management

System : Danger Prediction Training

Danger prediction is to predict potential risks that

could lead to disasters before the work start

Our working environment changes

continuously. In order to predict danger and
prevent disaster, leaders must conduct a short
meeting or discussion before starting to work to
distinguish any potential risks for zero-hazard.

Training is done for each workers to develop

their capabilities of detecting and predicting
potential risks so that they can prevent
disasters themselves.
What kind of risks are there?
Safety Management System 30

POSCO’s Safety Management

System : T.B.M

What is Tool Box Meeting?

TBM is a Danger Prediction Activity before

opening the tool box, which means, before starting
to work, to prevent potential risks.

This is the short version of Danger

Prediction Training, where the four steps
are combined into one step, one point.
Safety Management System

One person has

20,000 behaviors
POSCO’s Safety Management a day

System : Finger Point 2 human errors

a day

By pointing-out risk factors with your fingers,

we can raise work accuracy by more than 3 times and
reduce mis-operation and misjudgment by one third

Rate of mis-operation and misjudgment

When nothing is done 2.85% No one wants to make mistakes

Accidents happen when mistakes are combined
When risk factors are only pointed out 1.5%
with dangerous work or situations
When risk factors are only confirmed 1.25% If people actively point-out risk factors using
their five senses and their eyes, hands, mouths,
When risk factors are pointed-out and ears etc.
with fingers and confirmed 0.8%
human errors caused by mistakes and
misunderstandings can be prevented
Safety Management POSCO 10 Safety Rules 32

POSCO 10 Safety Rules

1. Use personal protective equipment (safety glasses, etc.)

2. Use handrails on stairs
3. Wear safety belts in all vehicles/seats
4. Stop at crossings and comply with speed limits
5. Do not disassemble safety devices
6. TBM before working, point out risk factors while working
7. Use a safety belt during aerial work
8. Do not approach machines in operation
9. Turn off the power and use a voltage detector before electrical work

Safety Management Outro 47

Wrap up
Let’s think about this together
What is safety?
While safety measures are often misunderstood as
regulations, they are actually complementary
measures to protect people. Safety maintained by
regulations collapses immediately after the
regulations are lifted.
We need to keep in mind that the core reason for
safety measures is disaster prevention.

Safety is the highest value

based on respect for humans!
Thank you
