* Updating dealer service people on skills associated with new products, new
components and new technology.
This course is intended to provide trainees with the necessary knowledge to safely service
and troubleshoot systems in the AD30 Articulated Truck.
NOMINAL DURATION
The course, which consists of 8 individual modules, is designed so that most trainees will
achieve the required competencies during 40 hours of tuition. The length of time actually taken
to complete the course may vary, depending on the trainees’ prior knowledge and abilities.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Trainees must be able to read, comprehend and discuss information that is printed in English
and should have appropriate driver’s licence endorsements permitting them to operate heavy
earthmoving equipment.
Trainees should possess appropriate mechanical trade qualifications and have a sound
understanding of basic hydraulic and electrical theory in order to derive the maximum benefit
from the course material.
TRAINING DELIVERY
A CEPL approved trainer will conduct the training, which will consist of the following
segments:
- A classroom session using the visual aids provided. Systems to be covered will include:
- 3406E Engine
- Powertrain
- Suspension
- Hydraulic control systems
- Steering system modules
- Brake module including both hydraulic & electrical components
- CMS modes and interrogation
- Electrical system
- Inspection of the relevant parts of the Truck by the trainees, under the guidance of the
trainer, to reinforce the classroom training.
- Practical sessions during which trainees will be required to apply knowledge acquired
during the classroom training to troubleshoot and service various systems on the Truck.
- Assessments which will demonstrate that the learning outcomes have been attained.
Workplace safety and health issues pertinent to the operation of the relevant Elphinstone
products will be emphasised during both the classroom and practical training sessions.
RESOURCES REQUIRED
- Projection equipment to suit the training format being used (CD or OHP).
- An AD30 Truck unit parked on a level surface conveniently near to the classroom.
(Preferably under cover to avoid disruption of the class due to inclement weather).
- Copies of the Elphinstone Service Manual and Operation and Maintenance Guide for
reference by trainees during the practical sessions.
4. Use Service Manual circuit diagrams to trace circuit flows and explain the interaction of
system components.
5. Interrogate the ECM and CMS systems using the appropriate on-board, scroll box and
ET diagnostics and use the information gained to identify defective system
components.
Participants who have previously completed appropriate training, or through prior learning and
experience believe that they have gained one or more of the required skills /
competencies, may be granted credit upon substantiation of their claim.
