DESIGN OF A PLANT OF TREATMENT OF DRINKING WATER OF 2 LTS / S


FOR
A POPULATION OF 750 INHABITANTS

Abstract It was designed a plant for treatment of drinking water, consisting of an aeration
system, a system of coagulation, flocculation system, a settler, a filter system and the storage
tank. The plant can be used for the treatment of groundwater or surface water. The feed rate
has a maximum rate of 2.0 L/S. Given the problems in Colombia more than 85% of the
municipalities of Colombia do not have adequate access to drinking water. The project benefits
all those marginalized populations in rural areas formed up to 750 people.

Historically, the development of peoples has been closely linked to water, since that this is an
important factor in the development of population centers with agricultural vocation
According to environmental studies, Colombia is one of the richest countries in the world in
resources water, however this is contrary to the availability of drinking water for the human
consumption.

In Colombia only 30% of water is available for municipalities and Of that 30%, only 15% is
drinking water and good quality. More than 85% of the municipalities of Colombia have no
availability adequate drinking water [4] and thus the water quality an important factor, since
bacteria present in this can generate various gastrointestinal diseases in the population.

According to WHO, diarrheal diseases are the second biggest cause of death of children under
the age of five, killing 760,000 children every year. Being able to prevent by access to drinking
water and services adequate sanitation and hygiene.

Additionally, the lack of water to meet the demand for irrigation in areas with vocation
agriculture contributes to social problems and economic conditions due to the low income
level of inhabitants, since they are abandoned lands ceasing to be productive, elevating the
unemployment and displacement rates in these maginados settlements.

The design of the water treatment plant potable, seeks to adjust to the main needs that can be
generated in the different rural areas of Colombia, having as a main objective those
populations of less than 1200 inhabitants (Veredas), and not only in seeks economic
development of the populations. Also provide an improvement in quality of life of these with
the supply and good water quality.

The calculations made in the design are fundamentals since from these it is established sizing
and support the capacity of load of the PTAP. Likewise, the constructive plans to the detail in
order that it be possible its implementation.

TEXT: DIALOGUE BETWEEN STUDENT AND TEACHER

- Student: I would like to know why I spend so many hours in the classroom, and what is the
use of studying.

- Teacher: Where would you be if you were not here?

-S: I would be having fun, doing whatever I wanted ...

-T: Are you sure? Tell me your activities of any day. What would you do?

-S: I would get out of bed whenever I wanted, I would run the internet as much as I wanted, I
would go with my friends wherever I wanted, I would eat whatever I wanted, I would watch TV
as long as I wanted ...

-T: That is a whole program of activities chosen by own will: you would do only "whatever you
wanted"; which means that you would not do more than what benefited you in each moment.
All a manifesto about freedom. You know that with certainty, but you do not know why or why
you are here. Well, let's see:

1) You are here because someone has tried hard to have a comfortable life.

2) That someone, instead of doing what he wanted, does the work for which he is paid so that
you can do "whatever you want".

3) You live in that someone's house because other people, imposing themselves not only to do
"what they wanted", made an effort to build it, for which others, previously, had to condition
Nature with a lot of effort, stealing their desert from the steppe of stones, channeling water
from rain and rivers, raising cities ...

4) Eat what you want because someone after someone, since Prehistory, managed to make
the earth produce the food you need to continue living.

5) Watch television, enjoy the computer and other essential inventions today, because, in a
relay race, many other people turned barbarism into civilization and, through effort and study
-the one you despise and bored-, they learned to add to what already existed what made life
more comfortable.

6) Those and other things have happened for millennia because others like you learned to
substitute "what I wanted" for "what I should want": they changed the unsupportive
selfishness for the solidarity of work that benefited their descendants.

7) So, if you think about it, if everyone had done "what they wanted" -that is, nothing-this
morning you would have risen up in the middle of a cave, half dead with cold, stuffed in rags of

smelly skin, with a snake stalking your first movement; you would have eaten breakfast hungry
with rotten teeth; you would have run to the supermarket of Nature, where to eat you need to
first defend yourself from wild beasts and kill deer, for example; When you went to look for
your friends you might find them strung on the fangs of some little beast; then you would
stroll through the nightclub of the noise and the fury of the universal jungle ...

8) All of that, and more, because, following your criteria, everyone would have lived without
doing anything - that is: exercising vagrancy - and no one would have bothered to order chaos.

9) Imagine yourself in that hostile world, without food, without a doctor or pharmacy or
hospitals, without a cobbler or an architect or masons, without a mobile and stalked by all the
dangers, with the only well-being of staying alive in exchange for not stopping you instant to
rest in your struggle to survive ...

10) So tomorrow, when you wake up and check that you're not in that terrible world, decide if
you want to practice the "whatever you want" currency, which would mean the destruction of
progress and regression to the caverns, or "what you must », which means, at least, earning
you the right to your comforts. For which you need to wake up your brain: to be here and
discover that you must start learning now if you do not want humanity, and you with it, to
return to glaciers and dinosaurs.
