2. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This subject plays a fundamental role in the achievement of the exit profile as it contributes
to the integrated education of all the students from Universidad Viña del Mar through the
acquisition of a second language providing their working and social insertion and their
opening to the global world.
In this curricular activity students have already learned the basic fundamentals of English,
including basic sounds, the alphabet, numbers to 100, days of the week, months, kinship
terms, basic greetings and farewells, and very basic words and phrases. In this level,
students build on what they know and learn to understand and use basic phrases and
expressions to satisfy everyday concrete needs. Although there is growing independence,
students at this level are very much dependent on memorized and formulaic language and
fixed expressions, mostly at the phrase level. Students at this level can use isolated
phrases and short sentences to introduce themselves, say where they live, and follow
speech that is slowly and carefully articulated, with repetition as needed. Students can
read and understands simple sentences found in everyday written materials. They can
write simple isolated phrases and sentences.
Passing this course, the student will have achieved Level A1+ in mastering English
language established by the Common European Framework of References (CEFR).
The course has 2 hours per week, the classes are divided into laboratory and regular
classrooms lessons. Besides, the students have to work 6 hours per week in the
Cambridge LMS platform & Aula Virtual.
