PRIMERA EXPERIENCIA DE GENE POR PARTE DE CATHERINE THORPEY

Lo que más abrió mi mente y mi corazón fue que Gene rompió todas y cada
una de las reglas que había aprendido acerca del focalizar. No invitó a las
personas a que cerraran sus ojos. Ni siquiera les reflejaba lo que decían del
modo como yo lo había aprendido. Les sugería palabras, cuando a mí me
habían enseñado que nunca lo hiciéramos... En mi interior se hizo la luz
acerca de lo que significaba realmente escuchar, y estar verdaderamente
presente para otra persona. Las reglas y las guías podían ser de utilidad,
pero cuando estamos genuinamente presentes y escuchamos –tanto al otro
como a nosotros mismos- las reglas y las guías ceden su lugar a la
sabiduría... Esta experiencia para mí significó sumergirme mucho más
profundamente en algo que ya había experienciado como profundo...

What opened my mind and heart most was that Gene broke every rule that I
had learned about how to Focus. He didn't invite the person to close their
eyes. He didn't reflect back in the way I had been taught. He made
suggestions of words to them, whereas I'd been taught never ever to do so. A
light bulb went off for me about what it meant to really listen, and to really be
present to another person. Rules and guides could help, but when one is truly
present and listening - to the other as well as to oneself - the rules and guides
yield to wisdom. For me, it was like diving much deeper into something which
I had already experienced as profound.
