FORMAT FOR PREPARATION OF SYNOPSIS FOR FINAL

YEAR B.E. PROJECT

ARRANGEMENT OF CONTENTS:
The sequence in which the synopsis material should be arranged and bound as follows:

1. Title Page
A specimen copy of the Cover page & Title page of the synopsis are given in Appendix 1.

2. Objective of the project work


This section should contain the main objective of the project work and also the secondary objective
if any.

3. Problem Statement and Formulation


This section should detail the main shortcomings in previous important / reference work, importance
of work / topic in the present context, uniqueness of methodology that will be adopted and
significance of possible end result.

4. Literature review
This section should contain mainly the study of the work/methods from the journals/thesis that will
be used in project.

5. Methodology
This section should detail the methodology that will be adopted to solve the problem may also
contain theoretical / background study of the problem and circuit that will be used & its analysis.

6. Functional partitioning of project


This section should list out how the project work has been segregated into various components.

7. Expected Outcome of the project


This section should mention what the end result/s of the project work will be.

8. Tools required
This section should list out the detailed specifications of the various components, measuring devic-
es, software tool, data sheet references etc.

9. Scope of the project


This section should describe the importance/scope of the project.

10. Work schedule


According to the project phases.
11. References
The section on references should list them in serial order in the following format.
For textbooks –

PREPARATION FORMAT:

Paper and layout:


 Synopsis should be typed neatly only on one side of the paper.
 On a A4 size bond paper (210 x 297 mm).
 The margins should be: Left - 1.25", Right - 1", Top and Bottom - 0.75".

Paragraph
 Paragraph Heading: Times New Roman Font, Bold, Font Size 16.
 Paragraph Matter: Times New Roman Font, Normal, Font Size 12.
 Sub-paragraphs be appropriately numbered as in 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc.
 Sub-paragraph Heading: Times New Roman Font, Normal and Font Size 14.
 Sub-paragraph Matter: Times New Roman Font, Normal and Font Size 12.

Typing instructions:
The impression on the typed copies should be black in colour. One and a half spacing should be
used for typing the general text.

Header & Footer:


 Header: Report Title – Right justified
 Footer: Dept. & College name – left justified; Page number – Right justified.

Tables and figures


 By the word Table, is meant tabulated numerical data in the body of the synopsis. All other non-
verbal materials used in the body of synopsis such as charts, graphs, maps, photographs and dia-
grams may be designated as figures.
 Figure captions below Figure with continuous numbering.
 Tables captions above Table with continuous numbering.

Important equations
Must be numbered in decimal form for e.g. V = IZ .......... (3.2)
All equation numbers should be right justified.

Reference OR Bibliography:
The listing of references should be numbered serially in the order of their occurrence in the text, sin-
gle spacing, left – justified and their numbers should be indicated within square brackets for e.g. [3].

Approval
Before taking the final printout, the approval of the concerned guide(s) is mandatory and sug-
gested corrections, if any, must be incorporated.
Important note:
 Before selecting the project, team members should contact respective guides and Pro-
ject coordinator
 The synopsis should be brief and include descriptions of work carried out by others only
to the minimum extent necessary.
 Proper attention is to be paid not only to the technical contents but also to the organiza-
tion of the synopsis and clarity of the expression.
 Due care should be taken to avoid spelling and typing errors.
