A NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE BASIC STATISTICS 1: DESCRPTIVE STATISTICS TRAINING

June 18-22, 2018 at South Insula, Timog Avenue, Quezon, City

The Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute (PSRTI) conducted its scheduled
training about Basic Statistics 1: Descriptive Statistics on June 18 – 22, 2018 at South Insula, no. 61
Timog Avenue, Quezon City.
The training was attended by employees from the private and public sectors. There were around
50 participants from the academe, statisticians from different agencies, and representatives from the
business sectors.
Training program was facilitated by employees of PSRTI, with Jesusa A. Pe Benito as Officer-in-
charge of the training under the leadership of Dr. Josefina V. Almeda. Lecturers were faculties of the
University of the Philippines School of Statistics.
The day-to-day activity of the participants involves lecture, and open forum discussion coupled
with hands-on workshops. On the first day, the PSRTI gave the participants with diagnostic test where
questions are mostly on the basic statistical concepts.
Workshops are prepared and given by the asiigned lecturers. Participants were assisted by PSRTI
staff and individually guided them on every activity.
The organizers of the training grouped the participants into four. Each group shall be in charge
of the recapitulations of the previous lesson. Energizers were also prepared by each group to break the
monotony of the lecture.
At the end of the lecture, the participants were given with post-test. The post-test includes
similar questions that of the diagnostic test. The training was ended with an evaluation of the program,
and distribution of diploma.
