BACKGROUND: Diarrhea is a abnormal condition of excrection the feces. The Changes is

increasing the volume of liquid, and frequency with or without blood mucus.

AIMS: This study aims to determine the relationship of mother's knowledge about the food types
of children in elementary school and the diarrhea in the area of Maradekaya clinic of Makassar
city in 2017.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: The type of this research is descriptive analytic by using

cross sectional study approach. Population taken as many as 110 people. Samples are taken as
much 99 people. This research using purposive sampling technique. This research was conducted
on 14 August - 14 september 2017 in the area of Maradekaya clinic of Makassar city. The analysis
data is using Chi-square test with significant score 0,05.

RESULT OF RESEARCH: Based on the result of the research, most of mother's knowledge
about the food types of children in elementary school as many as 67 respondent, and that did not
experience diarrhea as much 49 responder. Result of test by using chi-square test obtained p
score= 0,038 smaller than score (0,05), it shows that there is a relation between mother's
knowledge about the food types of children in elementary school and the diarrhea.

CONCLUSION: The significant relationship between mother's knowledge about the food types
of children in elementary school and the diarrhea in the area of Maradekaya clinic of makassar
city, year 2017. The researcher hopes for people to pay more attention to the food types that
consumed in a family so as not trigger the occurrence of a disease.
