1.a) What do you understand by plagiarism?
plagiarism is an act of using or closely imitating the
work of another person without authorization so as to get all credits.

b) State 4 consequences of plagiarism


-Destroyed student reputation; plagiarism allegations can cause a
student to be suspended or expelled. Their academic records can
reflect the ethics offense, possibly causing him to be barred from
school.

-Destroyed academic reputation; publishing is an integral part of


prestigious academic career therefore to lose the ability to publish
because of plagiarism allegations means the end of academic career
position and reputation.

-Legal repercusions; one's cannot use another person`s material


without citations and reference. This criminal offense may possibly lead
to a prison sentence. writers are well aware of copyright laws and ways
to avoid plagialism.

-Destroyed professional reputations; a professional person or public

figure may find that the damage from plagiarism follows them for their
entire career that is they may likely to be fired or ask to step down from
their position and they will find it difficult to find a respectable job.

2a) Define the words ethics


ethics is a social science that study a way of life, our way
of life, its value, rules and their justification.

b) Why do we study ethics?


- to know our ethics changes and the justification that
lead to a change of ethics. -ethics is important so as to help us
understand the nature of this differences that we can make better
decision due to difference in view points.

c)Bring out the difference between the


following
-Normative and meta ethics:
Normative ethics is that part of ethics that settle some
concreate rules to correct behaviors. It provides a general theory that
tells us how we ought to live that is what to do or not do while meta
ethics is concerned with more abstract questions having to do with
concepts meaning and justification of ethical concepts and principles
such as what is evil.

-Prudence and morality:

Prudence is looking out for one`s own personal interest
but does not means selfishness. prudence is sensible and careful way of
making a personal decision or judgement in order to avoid unnecessary
risk while morality is looking at other`s people interest and focusses on
rules of what is right.

-Egoism and altruism:


Egoism concerned with one`s personal interest and it is
extremely selfish while altruism means acting for the interest of
others caring about the needs and happiness of others more than your
own.

-Justice and equality:


Justice is that sense of wrong, when someone is cheated
or unfairly taken advantage of. It is the sense that people who do
wrong no matter their statues are rewarded while equality means
every one is the same in certain aspects, no matter who they are that is
people accused of the same crime should expects the same
considerations in court.

-social and cooperate moral responsibilities:


social responsibilities is an African principle encouraging
togetherness and communal work, developing and sustaining local
African communities while cooporate moral responsibilities is looking
at moral responsibilities in the society; it is a view that all state holder
should contribute to the building of an establishment.

3a) What is communal socialism?
It refers to the system that integrates communal
and social ownership and federation of highly localized independent
communities.

b) What is green revolution?


This is the great increased in production of food grains
such as rice and wheat due to the introduction of high yielding
varieties, to the use of pesticides and to better management technics in
industrialized country.

c)Explain Biyas` philosophy of rigour and


moralization
-self- knowledge: Socrates was the first Greek philisopher to
encourage both scholars and the common citizens to turn their
attention from the outside world to the condition of human-kind. In
this view, knowledge having a bearing on human life was placed highest
all the other knowledge being secondary. To Socrates, if a criminal was
aware of the mental and spiritual consequences of his actions will not
do it. he posited that a person will do was is good if they do what is
right.

-self-realization: Aristotle posited an ethical system that may


be termed self- realization. In his view, when acts in accordance with
his nature and realizes his full potential, he will do good and therefore
develop their talents in order to be content and complete. Aristotle said

"Nature does nothing in vain" therefore happiness is caused by realized
potential and all others things such as wealth are merely means to the
end.

4a) What is civics?


civics is a social science that deals with the rights and
duties of citizens and how the government functions to satisfy the
needs of the citizens.

b) Reasons why we study civics


- It trains the citizen to be aware of their political rights and duties in a
country.

-To know how the political, economic and social systems of the
government are suppose to operate.

-To know the consequences of breaking laws.

-To be informed about the society we live in and how we can interact
with the government.

-To understand and uphold our cultures. that is values, norms, taboos
and beliefs.

c)Define national symbols and state of them in


Cameroon
National symbol is a symbol of any entity considering
itself and manifesting itself to the world as a national community e.g

-National colors

-National emblem (coat of arms)

-The seal

5a) What is national building?


National building refers to all aspects aimed at bringing a
nation together be it political ,economical and socially.

b) Discuss the aspects of national building


-negative aspects
Tribalism; behaviour of trying to be loyal to the tribe where they
belong.

Nepotism; giving unfair advantage to your family.

Intolerance; trying not to accept ideas or ways different from your own.

Greed; It has to do with a strong desire for more wealth thus, tiling,
embezellement and bribing.

-positive aspects
Patrotism; It has to do with love for your country and willingness to
defend it.

Unity and cooperation; this is a state of being in agreement and


working together.

Punctuality; doing something at the correct time

Loyality; being useful to your country.

c)Differentiate between national integration


and national unity
National integration is the awareness of a common
identity among citizen of a country. It means that though we belong to
different caste, religions and regions we recognize the fact that we are
all one leading to a prosperous nation while national unity is the kind of
oneness that come from racial and cultural similarity.

6a) What is government?


Government is a body of persons or institutions that
make and enforce laws for a particular state or society.

b) State the type of government systems


-Mornachy; is the oldest system that emanates from the belief that
some people are born to be king and are ordained by the lord to rule
over men.

-The parliamentary; this system emanates from Britain parliamentary


system where the president is the figure head and prime minister is the
head of government and the government is formed by the majority
seats in the parliament.

-The presidential system; this system emanates from the US


presidential system. The presidents form his own government so he is

the head of government here.

-The semi presidential system; the government in this system is headed


by both the president and the prime minister

c)Differentiate between the following arms of


the government
-The executives: This administrative arm of the government is
charged with administering laws passed by the parliament. They
provide the needs and protection of the citizens. They do not make law
but initiates or proposed them only. e.g the president and the minister
in Cameroon takes part of this arm.

-Legislatives: This organ which makes laws for the state. It


introduces new laws and changes some existing laws if it considered
them lacking application. The legislative in Cameroon is the national
assembly or parliament.

-The judiciary: This organ interpretes the laws made by the


lesgislative. In some situations the judiciary is superior to the
parliament and in other cases like Great Britain the judiciary cannot
challenge laws made by the parliament since they are inferior.

7a) What is good governance?


This is the process of decision-making and the process
by which decisions are implemented. It is the exercised of economic ,
political, administrative, authority to manage a country`s affairs at all

levels.

b) Discuss the attribute of good governance


- Participation: participation could be direct or through legitimate
intermediate or through representatives. This means that good
governance requires freedom of association.

-Transparency: this means those decisions taken and their enforcement


are done in a manner that follows rules and regulations.

-Rule of the law: good governance requires full protection of human


rights especially those of minors. It also requires that fair legal frame
works are enforce impartially.

-Accountability: good governance requires that government institutions


as well as private sectors and civil organizations be accountable to
those who will be affected by its decisions or actions.

c)characteristics of good elections


-transparency; all information or materials used in making decision
should be made available.

-Avoid vote rigging; situations where votes gets missing or are stolen.

-Freeness in elections; right to be vote and to vote.

-Accessibility; information should be put in an accessible form that is


understandable form.

8)Discuss the rights and duties of


Cameroonians citizens

9a) Define cybercrimes and states its types


Cybercrimes are criminals activities carried out by
means of a computer or the internet.

-Cyber extortion: this is when an individual is locked out of their files by


the cybercriminals. These cybercriminals will offer to return back the
files in return for a payment.

-Financial fraud: This include hacking retailers computer system to


obtain customer`s bank details and manipulating financial data.

-Identity theft

-Espionage: This group of cybercrime is designed to secretly monitor
our behaviours.

b) What is terrorism?
it is an unlawful use of violence and intimidations, especially
against civilians in the pursuit of political aim.

c)Identify the negative impacts of terrorism on


national building
-Disruption of financial and currency markets

-Bad effect on transportation

-Distortion of global prices of key commodities

-Disruption of internet and tele communication infrastructure

10)Discuss the impacts of the following on the


economic and national growth of a country
a) poverty:
-It reduces the level of aggregate demand in the economy, making the
economy poorer than it could be.

-It typically requires the government to institute some sort of welfare


programs, leading to increased government spending.

b) Drugs and STDs
