Introduction
As a new teacher there are many curriculum standards and professional standards to
consider. The curriculum and professionals standards are set up to ensure the students are
learning the required curriculum and teachers are following guidelines that ensure they are
proceeding in a proper and ethical manner. The standards are set up to help the students and the
teachers. In this section, I discuss the curriculum standards and professional standards that
apply to the artifacts I have included in this portfolio. The standards included in this portfolio
include INTASC Standards, NYS Code of Ethics for Educators, Ontario Teacher Ethical
Standards, P-12 NYS Common Core Learning Standards(ELA, math and Social Studies, NYS
Learning Standards, Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum Expectations, DOE Claims &
CAEP Standards, International Society for Technology Education for Teachers and
Students(ISTE), International Literacy Association (ILA) Professional Standards and Council for
Exceptional Children (ECE). I have created my artifacts with these curriculum standards and
professional standards in mind. There is a chart provided below for easy reference between my

incorporates The Learner and Learning Standard, and Professional Responsibility Standard. My
The NYS Code of Ethics for Educators has six principles or statements. These statements inspire
and guide all educators to nurture every student, design thought-provoking learning
environments, participate in lifelong learning, and work with others to help students, work with
parents and the community and be ethical. My ELA Lesson Plan makes connections nurturing
each student and challenging learning environments. My ECE Diploma makes connections
challenging learning environments and educators learning and collaboration. The Educational
Survey connects to educators learning. My Math Lesson Plan incorporates nurture each student
and challenging learning environments. My Alphabet Books and App incorporate nurture each
student, challenging learning environments and educators learning. The DASA Certificate takes
into consideration commit to their own learning and collaboration in the interest of the student.

The Ontario Teacher Ethical Standards includes four categories which are: Care, Respect, Trust
and Integrity. My ELA Lesson Plan incorporates the ethical standard of care, respect and trust.
The ECE Diploma makes connections to the ethical standard of care, respect and trust. The
Educational Survey incorporates the ethical standard of care, respect, trust and integrity. My
Math Lesson Plan incorporates the ethical standard of care, respect and trust. My Alphabet
Books and App, include the ethical standard of care, respect and trust. The DASA Certificate

The P-12 NYS Common Core Learning Standards include curriculum standards for English
Language Arts, Math and Social Studies by grade level. This makes it extremely easy for
teachers to ensure the students are learning the required curriculum for their grade level. My
ELA Lesson Plan in the English Language Arts- Literacy corresponds with RL.2.11 which states
making connections between self, text and the world. My Math Lesson Plan focuses on common
core standard 2.MD.7 which states, measurement and data focusing of telling and write time

DOE Claims are set by the Division of Education of Medaille College. They include three
Claim 1: Medaille College graduates know the subject matter in their certification area(s).
Claim 2: Medaille College graduates meet the needs of diverse learners through

CAEP Standards include pedagogical and content knowledge. These standards make sure
new teachers understand the concepts and are able to use them to help students learn.

International Society for Technology Education for Teachers and Students (ISTE)

The International Society for Technology Education for Teachers and Students (ISTE) are
standards that include the use of technology in the learning process and the teaching process.
My ELA Lesson Plan incorporates the use of technology to create personalized learning
experiences. My ECE Diploma includes learning with technology and authentic learning

The International Literacy Association (ILA) has standards that certify professionals in literacy.
The subsections for these standards include Foundational Knowledge, Curriculum and

The Professional Standards and Council for Exceptional Children (ECE) have set standards for

Educator Professional Preparation for the Initial Teacher Preparation the minimum a candidate
should possess a Bachelor’s degree, adequate chances to develop and show pedagogical skill and
preparation in the core subject areas. For the Professional Standards and Council for Exceptional
Children my portfolio shows adequate chances to develop and show pedagogical skill and
preparation in the core subject areas. I have a Bachelor’s Degree and am working towards a
Master’s of Science in Education. I have also obtained an Early Childhood Education Diploma
where I learned to make activities especially for exceptional children. (Council For Exceptional

Conclusion
This section of my portfolio shows how my artifacts integrate the curriculum standards and professional standards. The
standards I have included in my portfolio include INTASC Standards, NYS Code of Ethics for Educators, Ontario Teacher Ethical
Standards, P-12 NYS Common Core Learning Standards(ELA, math and Social Studies, NYS Learning Standards, Ontario Ministry
of Education Curriculum Expectations, DOE Claims & CAEP Standards, International Society for Technology Education for Teachers
and Students(ISTE), International Literacy Association (ILA) and Professional Standards and Council for Exceptional Children
(ECE). The chart provided contains an overview of how my artifacts align with the curriculum and professional standards. These
curriculum standards and professional standards are in place to ensure students are learning the required curriculum and teachers are
professional, ethical and incorporate lifelong learning into their profession. The standards help the students and teachers to be their
best.
