Launch Management

Implementation Tips and Best Practices

• Review workflow Launch Management Realtime

• This workflow should run continuously in the background
• Validates launch request and populates the interface staging
tables, executing the interfaces and Proport

• Workflow is configured to process one valid request at a time

• Set Launch Request Block Size to increase concurrency

Troubleshooting Tips

• Ensure Launch Management View workflows are run if

changes are made to NPI_SERIES_DATA table
• Ensure Launch Request Block Size parameter is set
correctly
• New product launch is supported only at the following
levels:

Launch Management – Start at the Beginning
Before initiating the silent installer for the first time ensure the following are
correct:
• Ensure that the end user machine has enough privileges to install applications
• Ensure that the AppserverURL parameter (Business Modeler --> System
Parameter --> System) is correct and reflects the first part of your login http address.
• Review the win_installer.properties file from the
..Collaborator\demantra\tools\desktopInstaller folder (found on the machine hosting
the webserver).
• In it the DBA_SERVER parameter should match DB_HOST parameter so that both have FULL
machine name where the Database is located (ex. use the full name WYSIW.mycompany.com
instead of just WYSIW).
• Note that if you had the Oracle client installed on your machine, that while the silent
installer will still download the other parts of the application, a new tnsnames.ora
entry, to the database, will need to be made manually.
• Please remember to use the full database machine name as the name of the new
tnsnames entry.
• If you received Cannot connect to DBMS or DBMS is not supported in your current
installation message and you have confirmed that you have the Demantra
application and Oracle client installed then re-boot your machine and try the link one
more time.

Launch Management – Start at the Beginning
SQL*Net, TNSName and ServerName
The APS_PARAMS parameter named "TNSName" is used starting with Demantra
version 7.3.1.2. The previous parameter name was "ServerName".
• The parameter's value should be the DB name, per the tnsnames.ora file, to be
used by the Demantra application instance to connect to the matching Demantra
schema.
• First, find your correct service_name:
• In the tnsnames.ora you will something similar to:
ORCL=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=TEST-
DEMANTRA.oracle.com)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATE
D)(SERVICE_NAME=ORCL)))
TEST-DEMANTRA.oracle.com = ORCL
• Here, ORCL is the DB name or service_name
• You can use tnsping to verify the correct settings:
• tnsping <service_name>
• Or establish a sqlplus connection successfully on both linux and
windows.

Launch Management – Start at the Beginning
Further Troubleshooting Steps:
When a user clicks on the Member Management, Chaining or Business Modeler link
for the first time the following applications should get installed on the end user
machine:
1) Oracle Client is installed and the correct TNSNAMES.ora entry is added.
2) A Demantra Application Folder containing the Desktop and Security Management
folders is installed.
The location of this folder on the end user machine is based on the
• USER_INSTALL_DIR value found in the win_installer.properties file (ex.
USER_INSTALL_DIR=C:/Program Files/Oracle Demantra Spectrum)
3) Necessary Environment Variables and Registry Entries.
• Go into Business Modeler manually by double clicking the modeler.exe executable
under the Desktop folder found under C:/Program Files/Oracle Demantra
Spectrum.
• This will often point to a further error or at least gives us another clue in the
troubleshooting process.
• If this folder does not exist then that also points to a potential privilege issue and/or
win_installer.properties setup problem.

Launch Management – Not available after 12.2.4.1 Platform Upgrade from 12.2.3
• Please note that you need to do an Application and Platform upgrade to
receive this functionality of Launch Management.
• You need to roll back and then do Application and Platform upgrade
• Please refer to the following doc to help you decide which upgrade best
suits your environment
• Demantra Platform or Application Upgrading - Program Manager
Recommendations, Demand Management DM S&OP PTP TPO SPF CTO IMCDP
(Doc ID 1609763.1)
• How can you tell if the client performed an Platform and Application Type upgrade
instead of a Platform only Upgrade? (Doc ID 1347770.1)
