RESEARCH PROJECTS

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW - UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA 2015 - PRESENT

NIH P01-CA087971 to Dr. Theresa M. Busch

Determine the immunosuppressive effects of injury sustained during surgery on the preclinical and
clinical response to Photofrin-mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) in mesothelioma, lung cancer,
and breast cancer. Special focus was given to the contribution of inflammation to the polarization
of adaptive immunity (i.e. anti-tumoral versus pro-tumoral) and on combinatorial therapies to
overcome immunosuppression. Non-invasive imaging is also utilized in order to create
longitudinal models of treatment response in both ectopic and orthotopic settings.

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP – AUBURN UNIVERSITY 2011 - 2015

NIH R01-HL14477 to Dr. Peter Panizzi

Investigate elements of pathogenicity in Staphylococcus aureus, especially those related to infective
endocarditis. Also, investigated the use of bioluminescence in tracking Streptococcus pyogenes
dissemination in vivo.

NIH R44-AI085840 to Dr. Peter Panizzi

Investigate genomic components of Staphylococcus aureus virulence and antibiotic resistance via
next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and whole genome comparisons. The project focused
on an early S. aureus isolate, Tager 104, as an isolate in transition to the nosocomial setting.
