Redwood City

CERT to be funded by county partnership;
teen programs will be cut due to deficit
By Zachary Clark
DAILY JOURNAL STAFF

In response to budgeting constraints, Redwood City offi-

cials are proposing to pay for the emergency preparedness
program CERT through a partnership with the county, a
variety of programs for teens are on the chopping block
and city reserves are lower than they’ve been in years,
though are still considered healthy.
Despite the looming deficit, the city is enjoying an unex-
pected surplus of $2.3 million from fiscal year 2017-18,
which could be spent on pensions, sidewalk repairs and
homelessness or doled out to some of the programs pro-
posed for cuts.
Those aspects of the 2018-19 budget were the focus of a
study session June 11 in anticipation of the adoption of the
budget June 25.
