Abstract

The induced hearing loss by the noise depends on the intensity and the time in which
you are exposed to this sound stimulus. The deterioration of hearing is caused by
exposure to noise, this can produced hearing loss and irreversible damage to
hearing, generating several types of manifestations from the presence of tinnitus
such as fatigue, constant headache, sleep disturbance among others, producing a
high cost in the quality of life of the people affected. Mechanical turner workers are
part of the population that is at risk of acquiring this type of hearing loss, due to the
fact that they work in a medium in which they sustain a prolonged noise greater than
80 dB. 30 mechanical turner workers participated in this research from 25 to 59 years
old residents of the places of Talcahuano - Concepción, they were exposed to more
than 85 db of noise in a working day of 6 to 8 hours with the objective of determining
the prevalence of chronic acoustic trauma and tinnitus and its effects on the quality
of life. The results obtained in this research showed that chronic acoustic trauma
does not have a significant correlation with the variable of tinnitus, that is, that a
higher percentage reported that they did not present this symptom, although there
was a correlation in relation to the affectation produced on the quality of life where it
was significantly affected in the social / family environment.
