b. Prisoners.

(1) All prisoners of war will be treated in accordance with


the Geneva Convention of 1929. Troops will not accept or take souvenirs
from prisoners, or engage in unnecessary conversation.

(2) All prisoners (including, whenever possible, those who are


wounded),. will be segregated at the first opportunity into groups con-
posed of: (a) officers, (b) non-commissioned officers, (c) privates,
and (d) enemy civilians. No communication between groups will be
permitted.

(3) Examination will be conducted only by authorized interro-


gat and will be limited in each command to those items which it is
ca "of exploiting at once. Identifications and information on
hostilsregth, composition and disposition will be communicated to
G-2 ighth rmy by the most rapid means available. Briefs of examnina-
tions will be forwarded with the prisoners to the next higher echelon.

all maps, papers and documents appropriated. Front line units will
search enemy dead andi.aptured enemy positions for documents. After field
examination, situation maps, papers, copies of'tactical orders and ins-
tructions will be sent through channel&sat-the earliest opportunity to

(2)' Captured documents will not be marked or defaced in any


manner, Documents may be "Keyd." in BLUE PENCIL only for translation
purposes, and translations :written on .separate sheets of paper attached
thereto.

(3) Persons desiring the return of capture. documents will


attach name, rank and military address of person to whom document is
to be mailed, to the document in such as manner a&s not to 'obscure any
written portion.

d. Enemy Materiel.
(1) Supply arms and services are. charged with colleotion :and
study of captured equipment and materiel, and will inform G-2 of new
developments in types of equipment and the location of samte. Intelli-
gen&w personnel discovering enemy materiel and supplies will report
same to the appropriate' supply arm or service, which then takes control
of the stoc~k and materials in question,

necessary with appropriate special staff sections and with CIC and ATIS
units. They will perform the following functions:

(a) Provide technical information of captured enemy equip-


rent which will facilitate the progress of the operation.

(b)
Assist in the proper handling and safeguarding of
captured equipment.

(c) Provride personnel, for training friendly troops in the


use and maintenance of captured equipment and weapons.

(d) Remove nameplates from captured equipment, take charge


of nameplates removed by other personnel, and forward directly to A. C.
of S., -2 USASOS, APO 707.

(e) if technical intelligence personnel are not available,


their functions will be performed by regularly assigned intelligence
personnel, except that name tes removed from captured equipment will

be transmitted to A. C. G-2, Eighth Army.

6. COUNTERINTELIGENCE: ;

(8) The Signal Officer, this headquarters, will be responsible


for radiio deceptive measures (maintaining of dummy signal traffic in
evacuation areas) to cover convoy movement.

(9) Such means of identification of troops in front line areas


as are deemed'expedient will be adopted.

(10)' Utmost care will be excercised to insure that Filipino na-


tionals are' not needlessly fired upon.

Japanese-organized Bureau of Constabulary (BC) in the Philippines will
be detained by commanders of operational areas pending investigation by

c. The Commanding General, 11th Airborne Division, v~libe responsible
for the initial counterintelligence operations, including ..activitiest
in the area involved in his operation. He will be relieved " thsres-
ponsibility by the Commanding General, USAFEE, when the comba . ?ends.
The AC of S, G-2, USAFT FE, is responsible for technical s upervisi d co-
ordination on counterintelligence activities within the theater, ect
communication on counterintelligence matters is "authorize'd"between AC of
S, G-2, USAFFE, and CIC detachments, and between 0C detachments within
the force. When such direct communication takes place, the 010 detach-
ment commander will report the content of each message, by information copy
or otherwise, to the G-2 of the unit to which he is attached.

d. CIC detachments will serve-under the supervision of the AC of S,


G-2. They will perform the duties listed below, andd in addition such
other counterintelligence duties as may be required.

(1) Opexrate in conjunction with the 'Provost Marshal a reception


and interrogation point for non-Japanese personnel recovered from
the
enemy.; :Interrogate and classify such personnel in accordance with GHQ
instructions, to determine their nationality and citizenship and their'-
knowledge of matters of significance to the prosecution of the war.

(2) Ensure the search of enemy headquarters, billets and other


places likely to contain records and papers of intelligence value; super
vise the collection and safeguarding of such material,

(3) Assist in the combat area to ensure. the security of :capture:.


enemy -installations, documents and materiel.
(L) Collaboratewith Civil Affairs Section in preparing for the
approval of the Commanding Geral, 11th Airborne Division, security regu-
lations or proclamations for the maintenance of order and control of civi-
lan invem r communications, assemblage and publications to the extent
required r olute military necessity. The, 0C will also cooperate in

civilian identification and pass systems. Ensure the positive identi-
fication of all persons entering or departing from operational areas.

(10) Maintain liaison with, and disseminate information to, the


Philippine Civil Affairs Unit, Civil Affairs Officer, Provost Marshal
and the military police concerning counterintelligence matters.

7. CENSORSHIP:

a. Censorship will be effected by military and civilian censorship


personnel under the provisions of current directives. The aims of cen-
sorship will be to collect, evaluate, and disseminate intelligence in-
formation, to prevent passage of information of value to the enemy, and to
assist the maintenance of friendly relationships with Allied and neutral
governments.

b. Censorship is to be applied to personal communications, letters,


postcards, films, photographs, parcels, recordings and -transcriptions,
telegrams, cables,. radiograms, telephone messages, travelers' personal
effects and other communications no matter how transmitted.

c. Military censorship will be effected over communications origi-


nating with Army personnel and attached civilian employees in accordance
with existing regulations,

a. The Commanding General, 11th Airborne Division, is responsible


for local propaganda within his operational area, subject to the super-
vision of this and higher headquarters.

b. This headquarters will assist in piocuring special propaganda


leaflets on request.

c. Sur'render and native instruction leaflets will be used at every


suitable opportunity.

9. RFPORTS AID DISTRIBUTION: L..i

a. Reports covering enemy activities will be transmitted by the


AC of S, G-2, 11th Airborne Division, tothe AC' of S., G-2 Eighth Army,
as follows : ; -

(1) First contact with the enemy, new idetifications, approach


or arrival of enemy reinforcements by land," air sea,. employment of
mechanized elements and use of chemical agents b teenemy will be re-
ported immediately by URGENT message.
(2) A brief periodic report for the 2?. hour period ending at
18001 each day will be made by OPERATIONAL PRIORITY message so as to
arrive at Headquarters Eighth Army not later, than 21001.

(3) A complete written Periodic G-2 Report, covering the same


period as the report referred to in the preceding pubparagraph, will be
prepared and submitted daily.

this headquarters.

b.. Commanders, supporting Naval and Air Forces, are requested to


send information obtained directly to the Commanding General, 11th Air-
borne Divisipn, and in addition to transmit information obtained direct:,
to this headquarters when communication facilities permit. The Command-
ing General, 11th Airborne Division, will include in his reports infor-
mation obtained from supporting Naval and Air Forces.

1 ENGINER
1. Engineer Mission.

The Coimanding General, 11th Lirborne Division, will be


responsible for .h~ execution of all engineer missions in the
operational areas, including engineer supply as directed in para-
graphs 3 and L! Ad 0 No 0 4.

2. Engineer Troops - See Troop List, Annex 2, this order.

3. Reconnaissance and Intelligence.

a. Vigorous and systematic enginser reconnaissance will


be conducted to provide the inf~rrnation necessary for tactical
and technical planning.

b. Reports.

(1) Essential engineer intelligence data will be


forwarded to this headquarters bf~daily radio reports as of 2h100
hours.' When engineer itelligence of ir n-ediate interest to this
headquarters is secured, it will be forwarded br radio without
delay ad will also be included in the daily reports Wherever
practi cable, radio reports will be supplemented by safehand letter
rel orts making maximuni use of overlay sketches. The following
are essential elements of engineer intelligence desired:

will show the locations of engineer units, duties assigned each
unit, and.; other pertinent . data.

L1.. Camouflage. Troops will be instructed in basic camou-

camouflage discipline, proper dispersion, and full use of all
available cover and concealmaent. Maximum use will be made of;
local materials for any camouflage installations erected.

S. Mie and Obstacles.

a. C'omader, Naval Attack Force, is responsible for


the removal of undevrtatdr mines and obstacles. The Commanding
General, 11th Airborne Divisio, however, will coordinate with
Coxmander, Naval Attack «Fboce, in planning for the removal of such
obstacles and will be prepad" to supplement naval demolition
parties by furnishing trainedpersonnel to accompany assault waves.
