ASO which differ from BSO applications in concept and design

ASO(Aggregate Storage Option)

1. Data is stored in .dat file(tablespace-types, editable default, temp and not

editable, log,metadata)
2. No dense or sparse dimension designation/concept(It has Dynamic and Stored
hierarchies)
3. Data load can be possible at level0 only
4. Can have more number of dimension (>10 dimension)
5. Only level0 data can be export
6. Data access is faster
7. Aggregate storage outlines cannot be converted to Block storage outlines

BSO(Block Storage Option)

1. Data is stored in .pag file
2. Sparse and Dense dimension exist in BSO
3. Data load is posible at any level
4. Performance decrease as number of dimension increase (<10 dimension)
5. Can export all level of data
6. Data access is comparatively slow
7. Block storage outlines can be converted to aggregate storage outlines(convert
formule to mdx)

Key Aggregate Storage Characteristics

1. Data is loaded only at level 0

2. Member formulas are MDX queries
3. All formulas and aggregations are executed at runtime
4. Aggregation algorithm selects and stores most expensive queries
5. Outlines are paged
6. Block storage outlines can be converted to aggregate storage outlines
7. Hierarchy types follow formalized rules
8. Data is stored in table spaces
9. Creating Aggregate storage manually
