Below are some suggestions as to how to go about your
research. 1. Read the novel. 2. Get summaries, notes and analysis of the novel. 3. Identify the “Fear of the Other” evident in this novel; gender, the supernatural, social class, love, disappointment, racism, wealth, poverty, exotic, passion, science, politics. 4. Search for any other writers who have explored this “FOTO” in the novel. Try using search terms such as “scholarly articles on ……….” Or “academic papers on ……”. 5. Print out these papers and highlight and annotate them and stick them in your journal. Comment on these papers, find quotes you can use. 6. Has your novel been appropriated? If yes, into what form? Has the “FOTO” changed in the adaptations? Why do you think this might be? 7. Prepare for your Assessment by finding specific quotes and techniques in your novel and linking them to issues in Dracula. You might like to do this in a table and have it in your journal.
