Located in the city of Gorakhpur in Eastern Uttar Pradesh The Gita Press is the world's largest publisher

of Hindu religious texts. It was founded in 1923 by Jaya Dayal Goyandka and Ghanshyam Das Jalan for
promoting the principles of Sanatana Dharma. Hanuman Prasad Poddar better known as "Bhaiji" was
the founding and the lifetime editor of its noted magazine who also wrote articles with his pen name
"SHIV", Kalyan.[2] It started publishing in 1927, with a circulation of 1,600 copies and at present its print
order had reached 2.5 lakh (in 2012). The Gita Press archives contain over 3,500 manuscripts including
over 100 interpretations of the Gita.

In this documentary we intend to showcase the incredible journey of this noble institution and the great
impact it had on the society and its contribution in the building up of the spiritual and nationalistic
outlook of the masses, specially in the northern regions of the country. Identifying the subtle common
thread of spirituality through which the vast and vivid expanse of this land with innumerable variety in
culture and beliefs is strung together as a complete and inseparable entity of a nation/ Rashtra, Geeta
press has for long contributed in promoting the spirit of Nationalism

Geeta press has been the pioneer in giving the deities and gods of Sanatan dharma a face for the
common man. Though the representations of divine forms were abundant in the sculptures and
paintings earlier also, but they had a limited access, circling around aristrocatic and elite class. With the
freely available beautiful pictures of innumerable divine forms and that too with high aesthetic quality
to common masses, it all the more drew the people closer to the spiritual life. The Kalyan magazine
became an essential part of every Hindu household.
