1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this engineering specification is to provide designers and vendors
with the minimum technical requirements for the purchase, design, material
construction, inspection, testing, and shipping of solid dielectric Cross–Linked
Polyethilene (XLPE) insulated copper cable for use in industrial installations
owned by PDVSA.
Since PDVSA has decided to adopt the PIP (Process Industry Practices)
documents: ELSWC01: “Medium Voltage Power Cable – XLPE” and
ELSWC01D: “Data Sheet for Medium Voltage Power Cable – XLPE” as an
integral part of the Engineering Design Manual (MID), the requirements in this
document are additions or modifications to the ELSWC01 and the
section/paragraph numbers and the associated headings used in this document
correspond to the ones used in ELSWC01.

4.4 Insulation Shielding
4.4.4 (Addition)
The vendor shall provide information which substantiates the short–circuit
capability of the shield and/or armor.

4.4.5 (Addition)
Method of bonding and grounding of metallic shield and/or armor shall be as
indicated on the Data Sheet (single point, double point or cross bonding according
to circuit load and length).
