Structures & Technologies is a research unit run by Denis Zastavni within the Faculty of Architecture, Architectural
Engineering and Urbanism [LOCI] at UCL in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. It is linked to the training of architectural
engineers at UCL and brings the activities of the engineer and the architect together in an attempt at integration.

The unit undertakes research in the domain of structural design and its methods – particularly involving concrete
and wood – as well as the procedures and tools used for analysing masonry structures, the application of graphical
and geometrical methods and/or methods that are analogous to contemporary engineering, the rules of good
practice for construction in wood and ongoing study of the work of the Swiss engineer Robert Maillart.

Structures & Technologies est une cellule de recherche pilotée par Denis Zastavni au sein de la Faculté
d’architecture, d’ingénierie architecturale, d’urbanisme [ LOCI ] de l’UCL, à Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgique. Elle est
adossée au pro l des ingénieurs architectes formés à l’UCL, une formation qui rassemble les compétences de
l’ingénieur et de l’architecte sous un même chef en tentant l’intégration.

La cellule est active en recherche dans le domaine de la conception structurale et ses méthodes — plus
particulièrement avec le béton et le bois —, les procédures et outils d’analyse des structures anciennes en

maçonnerie, l’application des méthodes graphiques, géométriques et, ou analogiques à l’ingénierie contemporaine,
les règles de bonnes pratiques pour la construction en bois, ainsi que dans l’étude de l’oeuvre de l’ingénieur suisse
Robert Maillart.
