APPLICATION

As future internal auditors, we must be aware of the distinct role assigned to us within the
organization’s wider governance framework as part of the three lines of defense. Every line is
given importance and designated responsibilities by the organization. Our role is to provide the
governing body and senior management with comprehensive assurance based on the highest
level of independence and objectivity within the organization. In line with this, to actively contribute
to effective organizational governance and to be an effective and efficient internal auditor, we
should act in accordance with the international standards set for the practice of internal auditing.
Also, we should have an active and effective reporting line to the governing body. Lastly, it is
important to keep in mind that all of the three lines of defense should exist in every organization
and the model is incomplete without the other line for risk management and governance are
strongest and effective when the three lines are present and active.
