DESIGN BRIEF OF THE PROJECT: FIVE STAR HOTEL IN MADURAI. WEIGHTAGE: 70%
OBJECTIVES:
● To understand the design and form of building typologies that are the result of pressure
on urban lands with a thrust on issues like urban land economics, technology and
ecology.
● To create an awareness with regard to the design of green buildings and sustainable
architecture.
● To inculcate the importance of services integration and construction in spatial planning
in the context of design of High-rise buildings and service intensive buildings.
● To highlight on the importance of High rise buildings as elements of identity in urban
areas and urban design principles that govern their design.
● To explore computer aided presentation techniques involving 2D and 3D drawings,
walkthrough and models as required.
AREA OF FOCUS/ INTEREST:
• Sustainable building practices, green issues, alternative energy
• Intelligent building techniques and service integration
• Architectural Detailing
• Advanced building practices

INTRODUCTION
The intention of the project is to design a, physical space with accommodation standards for a
100-150 bedroom 5* hotel. The Hotel is mainly accustomed to provide accommodation for
Business class people, the Rooms may range from Presidential suites, super deluxe, Deluxe &
normal Guest rooms. Special studies may also be undertaken such as green building concepts,
energy efficiency, digital architecture & latest trends in architecture.

SITE AREA: 2.5 ACRES


The site is located in Madurai on the highways of Madurai – Thirupuvanam, the design goal is,
to apply the building design and layout planning to the site area, minimizing the footprint of the
building on the site within the constraints of the local byelaws. The scheme should provide
appropriate levels of parking facilities.

TYPE OF HOTEL
The generic model is based on 100-150 bedroom units with incorporating bar/restaurant,
meeting facilities, together with fitness and leisure areas.
GUEST FACILITIES:
● 100- 150 key bedroom units for different classes.
● Lobby reception area, Front Office and Administration, staff rooms.
● Kitchen as per required size.
● 3 Types of restaurant with seating capacity of minimum 60 persons,
● 24 hour Coffee shop with adequate seating.
● A self-contained Bar area, adjacent to the lobby.
● Events/Function room area, Banquet halls, Conference rooms.
● Fitness Room & Wellness Area
● Business Centre
● Treatment Rooms: SPA, massage etc.
● Disabled Facilities – General
● Receiving/Goods Inwards Area
● Back Of House – Stores
● Security and Guest Safety
● Other necessary spaces as required.

OUTCOMES:
An ability to understand issues in buildings with respect to density, services and energy
consumption as well as make the right choices in design situations involving these issues.

DESIGN BRIEF OF THE PROJECT: 75 BED HOSPITAL IN MADURAI WEIGHTAGE: 30%


A Private hospital management body is planning to establish a multi-specialty hospital in
Madurai with four major specialties - Cardiology, Orthopedics’, Gynecology and Pediatrics.

A 75 bed hospital building of around 6075 SQM of gross built-up area is proposed for the same.
The proposed project site covers a total land area of 2430 SQM and is located in Ponmeni,
Madurai in between KSN Petrol bunk and VAJRA Apartments.

TYPE OF HOSPITAL
The hospital will facilitate 75 rooms with concerns of spatial requirement demand as per the
existing health scenario of Tamilnadu.
