INTELIGENCIA?
El gusto por un género de música bien definido está en relación con el estilo de vida, las
relaciones interpersonales, la moral y las creencias políticas que lleva cada persona". Esta
es la conclusión a la que llegaron Adrian North y David Hargreaves, investigadores
universitarios, después de evaluar las respuestas de 2 mil 532 voluntarios sobre sus gustos
musicales y sus hábitos.
Estemos o no de acuerdo con este estudio, lo cierto es que asociar estilo musical con
personalidad contradice el sentido común.
Un estudio realizado en Estados Unidos sobre nuestros gustos musicales y nuestras
calificaciones académicas reveló que las personas con una inteligencia elevada gustan de
escuchar bandas como Radiohead y a Bob Dylan, mientras que los de bajo rendimiento
gustan del reggaeton y de Beyonce.
Mientras tanto, bandas como Tool, Pearl Jam, Outkast y System of a Down podrían ser
consideradas como agrupaciones para gente "promedio", al encontrarse en los gustos
musicales de los alumnos promedio que no destacaron ni para bien ni para mal en los
estudios.
Otro estudio de la Universidad australiana de Queensland, liderado por Felicity
Baker y William Bor, confirman esta idea, descartando que la música sea un factor causal
del comportamiento antisocial, por ejemplo. Más bien sugieren que el gusto musical es un
indicador de vulnerabilidad emocional.
EXPERIENCIA PERSONAL: Yo tenía un amigo de Cúcuta que criticaba mucho los gustos
musicales de las personas con las que se rodeaba, tanto así que empezaba a discriminarlos
por los géneros de música que oían. Llegó a tal punto que en ocasiones prefería pasar el
rato solo escuchando de su género preferido que hablar con las personas que lo rodeaban.
Llevó su caso demasiado lejos.
CONCLUSIONES
• En ocasiones las personas tienden a ser un poco selectivas con su grupo de amigos cuando
se enteran de la banda o género musical de su preferencia.
• Catalogar a alguien de acuerdo con su inteligencia por el tipo de música que escucha es
subjetivo ya que existen casos de personas excepcionales con gustos de todo tipo.
• La música es oída principalmente para relajarnos o de acuerdo con nuestro estado de
ánimo, no depende totalmente de nuestra personalidad

No apartar a nadie por sus gustos musicales, y disfrutar la experiencia de escuchar cualquier
género tolerando las preferencias de las personas que nos rodean.

did not excel for good or bad in their studies.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I had a friend from Cúcuta who criticized the musical tastes of the
people with whom he surrounded himself, so much so that he began to discriminate against
them by the genres of music they heard. He got to such a point that sometimes he preferred
to just hang out listening to his favorite genre than to talk to the people around him. He
took his case too far.
CONCLUSIONS
• Sometimes people tend to be a bit selective with their group of friends when they find
out about the band or musical genre of their choice.
• Cataloging someone according to their intelligence by the type of music they listen to is
subjective since there are cases of exceptional people with tastes of all kinds.
• Music is mainly heard to relax or according to our mood, it does not totally depend on our
personality
